Punjab Police arrested two former Chitkara University students over social-media messages alleging that two female students had died by suicide, according to reports published October 2–3, 2026. Police allege the messages helped fuel unrest at the university’s Rajpura campus on the night of September 25–26. The allegations remain under investigation; the arrests do not establish guilt.
What happened at Chitkara University?
Reports say students gathered at the Rajpura campus after claims circulated online that two female students had died by suicide and that their bodies could not be found. The gathering escalated into clashes and damage to property during the night of September 25–26, 2026. The Indian Express reported that two police vehicles were damaged and a police employee was assaulted. Those reports do not establish that every student at the gathering took part in violence.
Earlier coverage by Hindustan Times said the university registrar dismissed the suicide claims as baseless, and attributed to police and medical authorities the conclusion that the online claims were false. Those denials and findings are reported statements; the underlying primary statements and records are not presented in the available coverage.

Hindustan Times identified the arrested former students as Himanshu, from Nangal, and Aryan, from Ambala. Police allege that the pair circulated messages in social-media groups claiming that two female students had died by suicide and their bodies could not be found. The claim about their role is a police allegation reported by news outlets, not a finding of guilt.
