TVAddons said its long-running Canadian copyright lawsuit had ended, but described the outcome as disappointing. BetaNews reported on February 28, 2022, that founder Adam Lackman agreed to pay C$25 million in damages—about US$19.5 million in the report’s conversion. The available sources here do not independently establish the final order’s precise terms or whether the reported amount was paid.
What happened to TVAddons?
In a February 28, 2022 report, BetaNews said the Canadian lawsuit had ended and reported that Adam Lackman, TVAddons’ founder, agreed to pay C$25 million in damages. BetaNews rendered that sum as approximately US$19.5 million at the time. That conversion is the article’s figure, not a current exchange-rate calculation.
BetaNews also reproduced a message attributed to TVAddons: “After 5 long years, our lawsuit has now come to an end. Unfortunately, it didn’t result in the outcome we’d hoped for.” The message said the case’s end brought closure. “After 5 long years” is the organization’s wording, not an independently verified count of elapsed time.
What did the TVAddons message say about the result?
The message, as reproduced by BetaNews, said the Federal Court found TVAddons liable for copyright infringement and ordered its founder to pay damages. It characterized the conclusion as closure despite an outcome the organization had not hoped for. The speaker was identified as TVAddons; BetaNews did not identify an individual author.

What was the TVAddons lawsuit about?
The case was Federal Court file T-800-17, Bell Canada et al. v. Adam Lackman et al. The earlier decision 2017 FC 634 identifies the plaintiffs as Bell Canada, Bell ExpressVu Limited Partnership, Bell Media Inc., Videotron S.E.N.C., Groupe TVA Inc., Rogers Communications Canada Inc., and Rogers Media Inc., and identifies Adam Lackman as doing business as TVAddons.ag.

That June 2017 decision was interlocutory: it documents an earlier stage of the copyright dispute, not the final merits ruling reported in 2022. An IPPractice case listing describes T-800-17 as a copyright infringement action and lists 2022 hearing dates and February 24, 2022 decision dates. It is secondary docket context, not the final order.
How much did Adam Lackman have to pay?
BetaNews reported C$25 million in damages and gave an approximate US-dollar equivalent of US$19.5 million. The figure is attributed to the report and the TVAddons message it reproduced. The linked PDF was not retrievable from the available materials, so the final order’s exact terms, including payment mechanics, cannot be independently confirmed here. The sources also do not establish whether payment was made.

Why did TVAddons shut down?
The report describes the lawsuit as having ended, and the reproduced TVAddons message says the organization’s case had come to an end. Those statements do not establish that TVAddons shut down, explain why any service or site might have stopped operating, or document its current status. The available information supports a conclusion about the reported end of the lawsuit, not a broader claim about the organization’s later operations.
