To stop Time Sensitive notifications only while a Focus is active, turn off the Time Sensitive Notifications option in that Focus. To stop them for a particular app more broadly, disable that app’s time-sensitive notification setting. These are separate controls, and turning off an app’s notification permission silences all its notifications—not just time-sensitive ones.
Choose whether to change a Focus or an app
A Focus setting controls whether time-sensitive alerts can come through while that particular Focus is active. An app setting controls whether that app can send time-sensitive alerts. If you want to block them in every situation, change the app setting; if you only want them blocked during Work, Sleep, or another Focus, change that Focus.
Labels and availability can vary by software version and app support. If a switch is missing, check both the app’s notification settings and the selected Focus, and make sure the device software is current.
Turn off Time Sensitive notifications on iPhone
Stop them during one Focus
- Open Settings and tap Focus.
- Choose the Focus you want to change, such as Do Not Disturb, Work, or Sleep.
- Tap Apps (some interfaces may say Choose Apps).
- Turn off Time Sensitive Notifications.
This setting applies to the selected Focus, not to the app’s time-sensitive notifications at other times. Apple describes the option as allowing apps to send time-sensitive notifications immediately during a Focus when it is enabled: Allow or silence notifications for a Focus on iPhone.

Disable them for one app
- Open Settings > Notifications.
- Select the app under Notification Style.
- If the app supports the option, turn off Time Sensitive Notifications.
This changes that app’s time-sensitive notification permission beyond a single Focus. Apple notes that this control appears when an app supports it: Change notification settings on iPhone.
Turn off Time Sensitive alerts on Mac
Disable them for one app
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Click Notifications in the sidebar.
- Select the app and turn off Allow time sensitive alerts.

Block them during a Focus
- Open System Settings > Focus.
- Select the Focus you want to change.
- Turn off Time Sensitive Notifications.
On Mac, the Focus allowance and the app-level permission both affect whether time-sensitive alerts appear during a Focus. Check both settings if you want to ensure they do not come through while that Focus is active: Set up a Focus on Mac.

If the setting is missing or alerts still appear
- For an app-level switch, confirm that the app supports Time Sensitive notifications; the option is not necessarily available for every app.
- For alerts during a Focus, verify the setting for the specific Focus that is active. On Mac, also check the app’s Allow time sensitive alerts control.
- Do not turn off Allow Notifications unless you want to stop all notifications from that app.
- If the controls are not where expected, check the app’s notification settings and selected Focus, then confirm the device software is current. Apple’s iPhone guide describes Focus as a mode with adjustable notification behavior: Set up a Focus on iPhone.
