To turn off Two-Step Verification (2SV) on an Amazon customer account, sign in, open Your Account > Login & security, select Disable beside Two-Step Verification, and follow Amazon’s confirmation prompts. If you can’t sign in to reach the setting, use Amazon’s account-recovery process instead.
How to disable Two-Step Verification on Amazon
- Sign in to the Amazon customer account where you want to change the setting.
- Open Your Account, then select Login & security.
- Find Two-Step Verification and select Disable beside it.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the change.
These steps reflect Amazon’s US customer-help instructions. Labels or screens may vary by marketplace, account state, or interface redesign; follow the prompts Amazon displays. Amazon’s Two-Step Verification help page does not say that disabling 2SV removes every future identity or security check.
What to do if you can’t receive a code or sign in
Amazon recommends trying a registered backup method or signing in from a trusted device first. If neither works, use the recovery option at the sign-in challenge:

- Select Didn’t Receive the Code?
- Choose Two-Step Verification Account Recovery.
- Complete the identity-verification steps shown on screen.
Amazon says it cannot change your 2SV settings until your identity is successfully verified. After you regain access, go to Your Account > Login & security to manage the setting. See Amazon’s account-recovery instructions. Never share your password or security code with someone claiming they can bypass verification.

If your goal is fewer sign-in problems
Disabling 2SV is not the only way to address code-access issues. Amazon’s help page lists text messages and authenticator apps as ways to receive codes. Consider whether you can reliably access the method you use and whether you have a registered backup method or trusted device. Amazon’s cited help pages do not compare the methods’ reliability, cost, or security performance, so there is no basis here to rank them.
Amazon KDP still requires verification for one area
Turning off 2SV for your Amazon customer account does not turn it off for every Amazon service. Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) says verification is still required to access its Your Account page, even when 2SV is disabled on the customer account. This is a KDP-specific rule; it should not be assumed to apply to every Amazon service. See KDP’s Two-Step Verification help page.

If the setting is unavailable or recovery fails
If you cannot find the disable control, cannot complete identity verification, or suspect someone else has accessed your account, use Amazon’s official account-recovery or Customer Service channels. Do not try to bypass the sign-in checks or give anyone your credentials or verification codes.
