AIG announced on October 1, 2026, that Turab Hussain will become its Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer on October 12. He is set to succeed Christopher Schaper, who plans to retire at the end of 2026 and will remain at AIG through year-end to support the transition.
When does Turab Hussain take over as AIG’s chief risk officer?
The appointment takes effect October 12, 2026. Until then, it remains an announced future change; Hussain had not yet assumed the role as of October 3. AIG says he will report to President and CEO Eric Andersen, join the Executive Leadership Team, and remain based at the company’s New York headquarters. AIG’s October 1 announcement set out the appointment and transition.
Why is Hussain a plausible successor?
Hussain combines enterprise-wide actuarial experience with prior risk leadership. AIG says he has served as its Global Chief Actuary since 2023, overseeing pricing, reserving, and other company-wide actuarial activities. He joined AIG in 2021 as Chief Risk Officer for General Insurance.
Before AIG, the company’s announcement lists him as Chief Risk & Actuarial Officer at PartnerRe and Chief Insurance Risk Officer at The Hartford. AIG CEO Eric Andersen said Hussain’s understanding of the company positions him to lead its enterprise risk organization, with a focus on how AIG assesses, manages, and responds to risk. That is AIG’s stated rationale for the appointment, not evidence of results in the new role.

What happens to Christopher Schaper and the actuarial role?
Schaper told AIG that he intends to retire at the end of 2026. AIG says he will stay through year-end to support the handover. He joined the company in 2019 as CEO of AIG Re, later served as Global Chief Underwriting Officer from November 2023 to January 2025, and became Chief Risk Officer in January 2025, according to AIG’s announcement. AIG’s 2025 annual report provides historical context on his AIG Re and underwriting leadership roles.
Graham Fulcher will succeed Hussain as Global Chief Actuary, also effective October 12, 2026. AIG says Fulcher joined in 2022 as Chief Actuary, International Commercial Insurance. He will report to Hussain and be based in London.
