If Tubi plays with sound on your screen but your screen recording is silent, the most likely cause is content protection. Tubi says it uses Microsoft PlayReady to protect certain licensed movies and series, and Android documents that an app can stop other apps from capturing its audio. When that restriction applies, the recording can come out silent, and on Android it can also show a black video stream. This is a plausible explanation rather than a confirmed one for every Tubi title or device, so the steps below start by checking which of two situations you are actually in.
Work out whether playback or the recording is the problem
Before changing any settings, play the same Tubi title normally, without recording, and listen. The result tells you where to look.

Why protected audio can be silenced in a recording
Some content owners require their movies and series to be protected against unauthorized copying. Tubi’s DRM help page explains that it uses Microsoft PlayReady to protect certain licensed content. The same page notes that content owners may require delivery restrictions for protected content on specified devices or PC software applications when protection fails.

The capture side is a platform behavior. Android Developers’ “Capture video and audio playback” documentation explains that an audio app can prevent other apps from recording its audio, and it states: “Your app must respond appropriately, otherwise it will continue to record audio silence or a black video stream.” That sentence describes the general Android mechanism, not Tubi’s specific implementation.

Put together, the pattern “audible live, silent in the recording” matches what this mechanism would produce. It does not prove that every silent Tubi recording has this cause.
What to do, step by step
Step 1: Confirm that Tubi plays with sound
- Play a Tubi title you have not recorded before, without starting a screen recorder.
- Turn the volume up and check that the device is not muted or routed to a disconnected output such as a Bluetooth headset or HDMI display.
- If the program is silent here, stop and follow Step 2. If it has sound, skip to Step 4.
Step 2: Fix playback and DRM errors
Tubi’s DRM and error-code guidance covers playback failures, and these steps address those failures. They do not add audio to a recording that is already restricted.

- Update the Tubi app to the latest version from your app store.
- Close the app completely, then reopen it. On a phone or tablet, restarting the device is the next step if the problem continues.
- Try a different movie or show. A single title that will not play can point to that title’s protection rather than the whole app.
- On Android, clear the Tubi app cache. The exact path varies by manufacturer, but it is generally found under Settings, then Apps (or Apps & notifications), then Tubi, then Storage, and then Clear cache.
Step 3: Check the TV or connected streaming device
If you watch Tubi on a television or streaming stick, the sound problem may sit in the connection rather than the app. Tubi’s guidance for connected setups suggests these checks for playback errors:

- Unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable at both ends, or try a different HDMI port on the TV.
- Try a different HDMI cable if one is available.
- Temporarily connect the streaming device directly to the TV, bypassing any soundbar, receiver or stereo component. If sound returns, the problem is in the audio chain rather than in Tubi.
These checks concern playback compatibility on the TV side. They do not affect mobile screen recordings.

Step 4: Accept the limit when playback is audible but the recording is silent
If Tubi plays with sound and the saved recording is still silent on protected titles, the evidence available does not show a supported Tubi setting or accessory that overrides the restriction. Tubi’s own fixes address playback errors, not capture. The practical options are to record titles that are not protected, or to use the playback itself without a recording.
What will not fix silent protected audio
Several common suggestions do not have support in Tubi’s help pages or Android’s capture documentation:

- Capture cards, HDMI splitters, third-party recorders or audio accessories. No physical product is substantiated as a fix for protected Tubi audio capture.
- Cables or adapters as a fix for a silent mobile recording. Tubi’s cable advice is for connected-TV playback errors.
- Methods that try to get around DRM. This guide does not recommend them, and they can break playback or violate the service’s terms.
What the sources establish, and what they do not
- Tubi’s help pages describe DRM playback errors, device compatibility and general video troubleshooting. They do not publish a device-by-device or app-version policy on screen recording.
- No statistic or estimate of how often Tubi recordings are silent was found in the official sources. Any such figure would be unsupported.
- Android’s documentation describes a general platform mechanism for audio capture. It does not describe how Tubi implements it on iOS, in web browsers, on TVs, or on every Android device.
The sources relied on for this guide are the Tubi Help Center articles “Troubleshooting DRM Issues”, “Tubi Error Codes” and “Troubleshooting video issues on Web or Mobile Device”, and Android Developers’ “Capture video and audio playback” documentation. Tubi’s pages are the primary source for playback and DRM behavior; Android’s page is the primary source for the capture mechanism.
