Yes. The U.S. government’s America.gov chatbot initially answered that Joe Biden won the 2020 election and that official federal sources found no widespread fraud that changed the result. During the Sept. 29, 2026 launch, it then began refusing some political questions. Reports from the first days describe inconsistent answers; they do not establish why the behavior changed.

What did the chatbot say about the 2020 election?

Its early answers said Biden won

On Sept. 29, 2026, the Associated Press reproduced an answer stating: “Official federal sources do not show that widespread fraud changed the 2020 presidential election outcome. Isolated election crimes did occur and have been prosecuted.” Futurism later reproduced another launch response: “Joseph R. Biden Jr. won the 2020 presidential election. Donald J. Trump lost.” Futurism reported that the chatbot cited Federal Election Commission results and other government documents.

An Axios screenshot from the launch period showed the electoral-vote result as Biden 306, Trump 232. These are observations of the chatbot at a particular time, not evidence that every user received the same answer.

It then refused some election questions

The AP reported that while Donald Trump was still speaking at the launch event, the site began answering later election questions with a refusal to discuss political questions. Futurism reproduced a refusal saying the chatbot helps with U.S. government services and official program information but does not discuss political questions or election outcomes.

What is America.gov—and is it a “super intelligence” chatbot?

The service reported at launch is America.gov, with a .gov domain. The title’s “America.org” is not the domain of the reported government service. Launch coverage describes America.gov as an AI-powered interface intended to make federal information and services easier to find across agency websites; it does not establish “Super Intelligence” as the product’s official name or a measured capability.

Axios reported that the General Services Administration operates the service and that the White House National Design Studio built it. The site says its answers draw on official government websites and provide links to original sources. Axios reported that the service uses Google’s Gemini and Elon Musk’s Grok; the reviewed launch coverage does not explain how those models are assigned to individual questions or disclose the full system design.

What users can ask it to do

Launch coverage described questions about tasks such as replacing a Social Security card, changing an address, buying a national-park pass, comparing Medicare plans and registering a business. Axios reported that the site presented its scope as turning “29,000 websites into one.” That is a description of the service’s intended reach, not an independent measurement of its accuracy or completeness.

What is planned next

Axios reported that an early-2027 version was planned to integrate agencies so users could complete forms, applications and renewals. At launch, the coverage described a tool for finding information and services; it did not establish that users could already complete those transactions through the chatbot.

Was America.gov fact-checking Trump?

The launch answers contradicted claims associated with Trump, but the available reporting does not establish that America.gov was designed or formally operated as a fact-checking service. Its stated purpose is to help people navigate government information, and it says answers draw on official federal websites. The election response therefore reflects the sources the chatbot returned at that moment; it is not, by itself, a published government fact-check or a guarantee that the tool will consistently adjudicate political claims.

Axios reported that the chatbot also contradicted Trump on the Jan. 6 attack and confirmed that Barack Obama was born in Hawai’i. Futurism, citing New York Times reporting, described other responses rejecting claims that 25 million immigrants crossed the border illegally under Biden, that consumer prices were falling, and that foreigners would bear the cost of tariffs. Those examples are reported secondhand by Futurism and should not be treated as independently verified tests of the chatbot here.

Why did America.gov change its answer?

Axios reported that users got different results depending on the time, location and wording of a question. In one case, a user received a refusal saying the chatbot answers questions about government services and official information but not political commentary or election results; another user received an answer that Biden won when asking the same question. America.gov says some answers may be cached for up to two hours.

Experts cited by Axios raised several possible explanations, including system prompts, differences between Gemini and Grok, caching, or probabilistic decisions about where to draw the boundary around political content. The launch reporting does not establish which, if any, caused the conflicting responses. The White House said on Sept. 30 that America.gov “will continue to be updated to provide Americans the most accurate and reliable federal information and resources.”

Can you trust answers from America.gov?

Use it as a starting point for finding federal information, not as the final authority for a consequential decision. Its links to original government pages are useful, but the reported variation in answers means a response should be checked against the underlying source—especially for elections, benefits, deadlines, eligibility or legal requirements. No independent polling, error-rate study or formal accuracy statistic was identified in the launch coverage summarized here.

  • Open the source link. Check the agency page behind the chatbot’s answer rather than relying only on its summary.
  • Confirm the details there. Look for the applicable date, eligibility rules, exceptions and next steps on the agency’s own page.
  • Recheck time-sensitive information. The service says some answers may be cached for up to two hours, and launch-period reports documented changing behavior.
  • Do not treat a refusal as a factual answer. A refusal to discuss a political topic does not resolve the question; consult the relevant official records or agency material directly.

For political questions in particular, the key limitation is not simply that one answer may be wrong: users may encounter different answers or a refusal, and the public launch reporting does not explain the internal rules well enough to predict which response they will get.
