Trump Mobile has reportedly confirmed that a third-party security lapse exposed customer contact information in May 2026. Separate ransomware-group claims about stolen data have not been verified in the available reporting, and a Senate committee’s concerns about missing FCC filings are not an FCC ruling that the company violated the law.
Was Trump Mobile hacked, and what customer data was exposed?
According to an October 8, 2026, release from the Democratic minority of the U.S. Senate Joint Economic Committee, Trump Mobile confirmed a security lapse involving a third-party provider in May 2026. The exposed information reportedly included customer names, email addresses, mailing addresses and cell phone numbers. The company attributed the lapse to the third party, according to the committee.
The committee’s account establishes a reported, company-confirmed exposure, but the available material does not specify how many people it affected, whether customers or regulators were notified, or what corrective measures were taken. Those are among the questions Senator Maggie Hassan put to Trump Mobile CEO Patrick O’Brien.

Two ransomware groups made separate claims in September and October 2026 that they had stolen personal details and telecommunications information associated with thousands of users. The committee said subsequent reporting suggested the groups may have been referring to the same underlying data set. Their announcements should therefore be treated as allegations—not as confirmation of two additional breaches or a verified count of affected customers.

Ars Technica reported on October 8 that one group claimed to have stolen data belonging to 3,615 customers. That figure is the group’s claimed count as reported by Ars Technica; it is not an independently verified total from Trump Mobile or a regulator.
The committee also relayed the group’s account that, after it notified the company, it received the response, “We have no team to handle this.” This is the group’s reported account of the exchange, not a statement independently confirmed as company language. The available sources do not establish whether the later claims were verified, whether they involved the May exposure, or what data the alleged intruders accessed.

What is the Trump Mobile FCC filing issue?
Hassan’s October 8 request says the committee’s review of public FCC records found apparent gaps involving international service and robocall-mitigation filings. These are findings by the committee’s review, not an FCC adjudication. The available sources do not show that the FCC has determined Trump Mobile violated a requirement.
Section 214 and advertised international service
The committee says its search of the FCC’s International Communications Filing System did not find the necessary Section 214 authority for Trump Mobile’s advertised international calling services. It says authorization requirements apply to underlying carriers as well as resellers, and asks which company actually provides or resells the international service and under what authority. The committee frames authorization and ownership disclosures as safeguards relevant to national security; its concern is not evidence that Trump Mobile’s network was used for espionage or that a foreign party controls it.

Robocall Mitigation Database and subscriber checks
The committee says it found no responsive Robocall Mitigation Database entries under either Trump Mobile or T1 Mobile LLC, the operating business name it identifies. It also says Liberty Mobile’s latest filing appeared to omit a required description of its know-your-customer onboarding procedures. The committee’s concern is that weak subscriber authentication can make it easier for scammers to obtain phone numbers and use them for fraudulent calls or texts. These observations describe the committee’s public-record review; they do not establish an FCC enforcement result.
How are Trump Mobile and Liberty Mobile connected?
The committee describes Trump Mobile as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO)—a reseller that offers cellular service using larger carriers’ networks. It says Trump Mobile’s launch terms described the service as “powered by Liberty Mobile Wireless” and recounts later descriptions of Liberty as its “enabler” and “backbone.” The committee characterizes Liberty Mobile Wireless as a closely connected Florida-based MVNO and raises questions about common management and control.

The available material does not conclusively establish the companies’ full ownership or legal relationship, nor does it identify all providers involved in delivering each service. Hassan’s request seeks information about those relationships and the arrangements with service providers rather than supplying definitive answers.
What answers has the committee requested?
Hassan’s request asks Trump Mobile to explain how it verified the reported exposure and later intrusion claims, how many customers were affected, whether customers or regulators were notified, and what steps were taken in response. It also seeks information about company relationships, service-provider arrangements, subscriber-verification procedures and FCC compliance.

The committee requested a response by October 29, 2026. As of the October 8 release, the materials available did not include the company’s answers. Hassan’s letter also cites carriers’ duties to “protect the confidentiality of customer proprietary information” and “take reasonable measures to discover and protect against attempts to gain unauthorized access.” Those phrases are quoted from the senator’s letter; they are not a complete quotation or explanation of the governing law.
Does the T1 phone explain or resolve the security concerns?
No. The T1 handset is part of the wider Trump Mobile venture, but the reported exposure and apparent FCC filing gaps concern customer-data handling and telecommunications services, not a handset feature that could resolve them. In a separate May 18, 2026, letter, Senator Mark Warner asked about the phone’s origin, components, manufacturing locations, biometric functions and data use, and preloaded applications. Those questions document scrutiny; they do not establish the phone’s technical security properties or provide company answers.
