The White House announced a one-time $90 payment for more than 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees, with delivery expected to begin in early October 2026. It is not a check for all Americans: the White House says most Part B enrollees qualify, but excludes people whose premiums are paid by Medicaid and people who pay an income-related monthly adjustment amount (IRMAA).
What is the $90 Medicare payment?
It is a one-time payment intended to help eligible people pay their Medicare Part B premiums. The White House announcement gives the amount as $90 per person and says more than 20 million enrollees are expected to receive it. That is the official announced amount; President Trump described it on social media as “nearly $100.” The White House fact sheet and Axios’s report describe the same payment.
The announcement does not establish a recurring benefit, a full month of premium coverage, or a payment for every American. Axios cited a standard monthly Part B premium of $202.90 and noted that $90 is less than half of that amount for one month.

The White House says most Medicare Part B enrollees qualify. Its fact sheet names two exclusions:

- People whose Part B premiums are already paid by Medicaid.
- People who pay IRMAA, the income-related monthly adjustment amount added to premiums for some beneficiaries.
The announcement does not provide a complete individual eligibility determination. For a check on your situation, call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).
When and how should the payment arrive?
The White House said eligible beneficiaries should receive the payment in early October 2026. Those with direct deposit were expected to receive a deposit; those without it were expected to get a paper check at the mailing address registered with Medicare. These are announced expectations, not confirmation that a particular person’s payment has arrived or that distribution is complete.

For questions about payment status, the fact sheet lists the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213. If you are waiting for a paper check, make sure your mailing address on record with Medicare is current.

“Slush fund” is Trump’s political description, not the formal name of a new benefit program. The funding source identified by the White House is the Medicare Improvement Fund. The administration says Congress appropriated $2 billion to the fund for improvements to the Medicare fee-for-service program and says it had not previously been used. That account is the White House’s characterization; the cited materials do not independently establish the fund’s full history or provide a legal analysis of whether this particular payment is authorized under its governing rules.

Is this the proposed $5,000 Trump Dividend?
No. The Medicare payment is a one-time $90 benefit for eligible Part B enrollees. The separate “Trump Dividend” is a proposed $5,000 payment to every adult if Republicans retain control of Congress. The Associated Press reported that House Speaker Mike Johnson said congressional approval would be needed for that proposal. The two announcements have different amounts, eligibility, funding and status; the proposed dividend is not part of the Medicare payment.
