Truecaller Personal Voice lets its Assistant answer an incoming call using a synthetic version of your voice. Truecaller announced the feature as an integration with Microsoft Azure AI Speech on May 22, 2024. The announcement and setup guide explain how it was introduced, but they do not establish where Personal Voice is available today or whether its original subscription requirement still applies everywhere.
What Truecaller Personal Voice does
Truecaller Assistant handles incoming calls by asking callers why they are calling and relaying information to help you decide whether to answer. Personal Voice changes the Assistant’s speaking voice to a synthetic representation of your own. Truecaller Product Director and General Manager Raphael Mimoun described it as letting the Assistant “sound just like” the user when handling incoming calls in the company’s May 22, 2024 announcement. That is the company’s description, not an independently verified measure of how closely a generated voice matches.
It is a call-screening feature, not a voice that makes calls for you. Truecaller support says Assistant is designed to answer incoming calls and cannot place outbound calls on your behalf. You still need to transfer a ringing call to Assistant: the support instructions say to decline the call, or, when the phone is locked, double-click the power button. Most processing takes place in the cloud, according to Truecaller’s Assistant support page.

- Personal Voice is a speaking option for Truecaller Assistant. It uses a synthetic representation of your voice when the Assistant handles an incoming call.
- AI Call Scanner analyzes live caller audio and indicates whether it detects a human or AI-generated voice. It is not the feature that makes Assistant speak in your voice. Truecaller’s AI Call Scanner FAQ says poor audio, background noise, and pre-recorded messages can prevent analysis from succeeding.
In its May 29, 2024 scanner announcement, Truecaller claimed that an AI voice synthesizer needs three seconds of a person’s voice to create a complete clone. That is Truecaller’s stated claim in the context of the scanner announcement, not an independently established benchmark for Personal Voice or a measure of its quality.

- Update the Truecaller app.
- Subscribe to Truecaller Premium, as required by the guide at that time.
- Open Assistant settings and follow the prompts to record and set up your voice.
This is the launch-era setup guidance, not confirmation of current Premium rules or eligibility in every country. Truecaller’s current support information says Assistant works on Android and iOS, but availability and features can vary by country, carrier, and language. The reviewed sources do not establish Personal Voice’s present country-by-country availability or current plan requirements.
What callers hear and what you can customize
Truecaller support says Assistant identifies itself as an Assistant, even when you customize its voice. You can also customize its greeting. The support page says each Assistant conversation is limited to two minutes. These details describe Assistant behavior generally; they do not establish that every Personal Voice setting is available in every country, language, or app version.

Voice recordings, model use, and deletion
Truecaller’s feature-specific synthetic-voice terms, published May 21, 2024, say the recordings and generated model are used for the feature, that users may delete them through app settings, and that users may create a model only from their own voice. The terms also say users retain rights to their recordings. These are the terms’ stated permissions and controls; they should not be read as broader guarantees about security or data handling beyond what the terms specify.

The available company materials describe the intended experience, but do not provide an independent study or neutral performance statistic for Personal Voice’s voice similarity, recognition accuracy, or impact on call outcomes. Treat descriptions such as “sound just like” as product positioning rather than a measured guarantee.

Truecaller’s February 17, 2026 earnings-call remarks placed AI voice deepfakes among the challenges its scanner aims to address, while describing AI voicemail and digital assistants as product opportunities. Those comments indicate the company’s strategic framing; they do not demonstrate Personal Voice adoption or prove that either feature is effective.
