Troy Parrott scored twice for the Republic of Ireland, but Austria fought back from two goals down to draw 2–2 in their UEFA Nations League match at Aviva Stadium on October 1, 2026. Parrott’s first-half goals—a solo run and finish followed by a penalty—put Ireland 2–0 ahead at the break.
How Parrott scored Ireland’s two goals
11th minute: individual run and finish
Parrott collected a pass from Adam Idah in the Austrian half, drove through the defence and finished past goalkeeper Florian Wiegele. The goal gave Ireland an early lead. The FAI’s match report describes the move; RTÉ’s report characterized it as magic.
44th minute: penalty
Ireland won a penalty after Nicolas Seiwald fouled Ryan Manning. Parrott took the spot-kick; it struck the upright and went in, making the score 2–0 before half-time.

Austria scored twice in six second-half minutes. Alexander Prass pulled one back in the 72nd minute, and substitute Michael Gregoritsch equalized in the 76th. The final score was 2–2. The UEFA match information records Parrott’s two goals in the Nations League fixture.

Parrott’s performance and the match context
The Football Association of Ireland named Parrott Sky Player of the Match. Austria manager Ralf Rangnick also praised his contribution, telling RTÉ: “I mean, as long as he was on the pitch, he was probably man of the match I would say, not only because he scored a brilliant goal but also because he was involved in any of the offensive situations that Ireland created.” RTÉ reported Rangnick’s reaction.
Although the headline may identify Parrott with Real Betis, this was an Ireland international, not a Betis club match. The FAI reported an attendance of 45,782 at Aviva Stadium.
