Yes. Kalypso Media currently lists Tropico 7 for Nintendo Switch 2, with a planned release date of January 28, 2027. The earlier “out 2027” announcement has since been updated with a specific date in the publisher’s current FAQ.
What’s announced for the Switch 2 version?
Nintendo Life reported on September 18, 2026, that the Switch 2 edition will support mouse controls using Joy-Con 2 and Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat, including voice chat and screen sharing. These are announced features, not results from hands-on testing; the report does not establish how well the controls work in practice or how the game performs on the console. Nintendo Life’s announcement coverage attributes the following description to a Kalypso statement: “Tropico 7 Special Edition brings the series beloved signature mix of city building, politics, economics, and questionable presidential decision-making to a version specifically optimized for the handheld platform.”
What kind of game is Tropico 7?
Tropico 7 is a city-building and political simulation from developer Gaming Minds Studios and publisher Kalypso Media. You govern an island nation, shape its landscape, manage political factions and elections, issue edicts, and develop buildings and military forces. Kalypso’s official product page also highlights terraforming, building synergies, and customization of the island’s appearance.
Which other platforms are listed?
Kalypso’s current FAQ lists Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PC (Steam and Epic Games), Xbox on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. The US PlayStation Store listing also gives January 28, 2027 as the release date and describes the game as a single-player strategy and simulation title. That listing corroborates the date and genre, but says nothing about Switch 2 performance.

Is there a physical Switch 2 edition?
Kalypso says it has no confirmed information about physical editions. A cartridge or other physical copy for Switch 2 has not been confirmed, so check the publisher’s FAQ for updates before planning a physical purchase.
What’s not yet known about Switch 2 performance?
The announcement establishes the platform and reports planned controls and GameChat support; it does not provide independent performance testing, frame-rate or resolution details, or a version comparison. “Optimized for the handheld platform” is wording in the publisher statement quoted by Nintendo Life, not an independently verified performance finding. There is not enough established information to say how the Switch 2 version will compare with the other listed platforms.
