The Trigem Averatec N1200 was a compact, 2.2-pound netbook that earned praise in a 2010 review for its finish, portability and Wi-Fi results. Its main drawback was the tested two-cell battery: Laptop Mag measured 2 hours 32 minutes. An awkward keyboard layout was another notable compromise.
What the reviewed Averatec N1200 included
Laptop Mag’s March 18, 2010 review covered a Windows 7 Starter configuration built around Intel’s 1.66-GHz Atom N450. Its 10.1-inch display had a native resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels, and the machine had 1GB of RAM and a 160GB, 5,400-rpm hard drive. Graphics came from integrated Intel GMA 3150.
| Specification | Reviewed unit |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Atom N450, 1.66 GHz |
| Memory | 1GB |
| Storage | 160GB, 5,400-rpm hard drive |
| Display | 10.1 inches; 1024 × 600 native resolution |
| Graphics | Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics |
| Operating system | Windows 7 Starter |
| Wireless | 802.11n Wi-Fi |
| Ports and camera | Two USB ports, VGA, Ethernet, audio jacks, and a 1.3-megapixel webcam |
| Dimensions and weight | 10.7 × 6.5 × 0.9 inches; 2.2 pounds |
These details describe the reviewed configuration, not every N1200. TriGem USA’s March 2, 2010 announcement described variants with Windows XP Home or Windows 7 Starter and different battery and storage combinations.
How it performed for everyday netbook tasks
The reviewer found the N1200 capable of basic use such as browsing the web, listening to music and writing documents. Laptop Mag recorded 1,431 in PCMark05 and 922 in Geekbench. Those are results from a 2010 review, useful as a record of that test unit but not as a comparison with current computers.
#1 Best Overall
The review reported Wi-Fi throughput of 47.8 Mbps at 15 feet from the access point and 31.1 Mbps at 50 feet. Those figures reflect Laptop Mag’s test conditions; they should not be read as a guarantee of performance on another network.
What the design got right—and wrong
Laptop Mag liked the brushed metal alloy lid, low weight and large touchpad. The glossy display was described as bright with good contrast, though its reflective surface could be distracting under ambient light.

The keyboard was the more consequential ergonomic weakness. The layout squeezed several keys on the right side of the deck, and the reviewer said they repeatedly hit slash instead of period. The webcam, positioned to the left of the display, and the touchpad’s narrow single button also drew criticism.
How long did the Averatec N1200 battery last?
Laptop Mag measured 2 hours 32 minutes on the reviewed unit’s two-cell, 3,200-mAh battery. In the review’s 2010 test cohort, that was about 20 minutes below its three-cell netbook average and nearly four hours below its six-cell average. Those comparisons apply to that period’s test group, not to a present-day benchmark.

Two-cell and six-cell configurations are not interchangeable
TriGem USA’s March 2010 announcement listed two-cell variants with a 160GB drive and manufacturer-estimated battery life of “up to 3hrs.” It separately described a 250GB configuration with a six-cell battery, Bluetooth and an “up to 6hrs” estimate. Laptop Mag also discussed a planned $379 six-cell, 250GB configuration. The six-hour figure was a manufacturer estimate for a different configuration; Laptop Mag’s measured 2-hour-32-minute result came from its two-cell review unit.
The launch announcement listed historical MSRPs of $329.99, $349.99 and $379.99 for its variants. These are launch-era prices, not current valuations. TriGem also called the N1200 the “thinnest, lightest 10.1-inch netbook on the market today”; that was the company’s dated 2010 marketing claim, not an independently established or current comparison.

Is the Averatec N1200 any good?
As a 2010 netbook, the N1200 paired a light build and useful basic-task performance with strong reported Wi-Fi throughput. The cramped right-side keyboard keys and short measured runtime on the reviewed two-cell battery were meaningful drawbacks. The six-cell option addressed the battery concern on paper, but its “up to 6hrs” runtime was TriGem’s estimate rather than a result established by Laptop Mag’s test.
The N1200 is best understood as a legacy model rather than a current laptop recommendation. The cited 2010 sources do not establish whether it is available now, what it should cost today, whether its original operating systems remain supported, or which replacement battery would fit.
