TP-Link announced three Apple HomeKit-compatible Kasa devices on December 7, 2022: the KS200 on/off smart wall switch, the KS220 dimmer switch and the EP40A outdoor smart plug with two individually controlled outlets. The key choice is straightforward: use the KS200 for compatible lighting that only needs on/off control, the KS220 when you need dimming and have compatible bulbs, or the EP40A for suitable outdoor equipment within its electrical limits.
What did TP-Link announce?
TP-Link’s December 7, 2022 announcement added the KS200, KS220 and EP40A to its Kasa smart-home range with Apple HomeKit support. The release also described control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. TP-Link said the three products were available on Amazon at launch; that is a historical availability statement, not confirmation of current stock or pricing.
The launch prices TP-Link published in 2022 were $24.99 for the KS200, $27.99 for the KS220 and $29.99 for the EP40A. Those were launch MSRPs, not current retailer prices.

What is the difference between Kasa KS200 and KS220?
The KS200 is an on/off switch; the KS220 adds dimming. Their load ratings and operating details differ, so choose by both function and the lighting connected to the switch.

The KS200 is the option for compatible circuits and loads that need switching but not dimming. For the KS220, the bulb or lighting load must support the dimming method and stay within its rating. TP-Link’s KS200 specifications and KS220 specifications provide the model-specific details; neither rating establishes that a switch fits every installation.
Does the Kasa KS200 work with Apple HomeKit?
Yes. TP-Link lists Apple Home support for the KS200 and KS220, as well as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung SmartThings. The same four platforms are listed for the EP40A. Compatibility can depend on the product’s exact model/version and regional variant, so verify those details for the device sold where you live.

All three product pages list 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Bluetooth 4.2 is specified for setup on the KS200 and KS220; it is not a substitute for their listed Wi-Fi connection. The EP40A page also specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A device’s stated wireless specification does not guarantee coverage in a particular home or yard.

The EP40A has two outlets that can be controlled individually. TP-Link rates it for 125 V, 60 Hz, with a maximum load of 15 A/1875 W and a 1/2 HP motor rating. Check the connected device against the relevant electrical limit before use. Its official specifications also list 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and the same smart-home platforms as the switches.

Is the Kasa EP40A outdoor plug waterproof?
TP-Link rates the EP40A IP64, describing protection against dust and water splashes. That does not mean it is waterproof under every condition or suitable for immersion. TP-Link says to cap the sockets with the included weather-resistant cover whenever they are not in use. Its 2022 announcement also cautions that wireless coverage varies with network conditions, obstacles and building materials; it gives a maximum open-area reach of 300 ft, which should not be treated as a guaranteed range at a specific property.

- For a wall switch: check the exact model’s wiring instructions and your circuit configuration before buying or installing. The published specifications do not establish universal installation fit.
- For lighting: confirm the voltage and total connected load. For the KS220, confirm the bulbs or fixtures are compatible with leading-edge/TRIAC phase-cut dimming and remain within the stated wattage limit.
- For the EP40A: confirm voltage, current, wattage and motor rating for the outdoor device, and keep the included cover over unused sockets.
- For smart-home control: verify the model/version and platform support in your region, and make sure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi reaches the intended location.
TP-Link describes guided installation, but that does not mean every circuit or installation is suitable for every buyer. Follow the instructions for the exact product version; consult a qualified electrician if you are unsure about wiring or circuit compatibility.
