The TP-Link Omada EAP690E HD is a business-class, ceiling-mount Wi-Fi 6E access point with four radios, a 10Gbps Ethernet port, and centralized Omada management. Its advertised 10.8Gbps is an aggregate of radio link rates—not the speed a single device should expect. More importantly for buyers, TP-Link’s US product page currently labels the model End of Life, so verify local support, firmware availability, seller terms, and stock before choosing it for a new deployment.
What the EAP690E HD is
The EAP690E HD is an access point for a business network, not an all-in-one consumer router. TP-Link describes it as an AXE11000, quad-band Wi-Fi 6E model intended for demanding environments such as offices, education, hospitality, shopping malls, and meeting rooms. It has internal omnidirectional antennas and is designed for ceiling or wall mounting.
TP-Link’s US product page lists dimensions of 280 × 280 × 59.1 mm and includes a mounting kit and power adapter in the package. Specifications and package contents can vary by region or hardware revision, so check the local product documentation for the unit you are considering.
What does “10.8Gbps” mean?
TP-Link advertises an aggregate maximum radio link rate of 10.8Gbps. Its US specification page breaks that figure down as follows:
#1 Best Overall
- Quad-Band Wi-Fi 6EEAP690E HD features brand-new 6 GHz band with SIMULTANEOUS 4804 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4804 Mbps on dual-band 5 GHz, and 1148 Mbps on 2.4 GHz for 10.8 Gbps Wi-Fi speeds bringing more bandwidth, faster speeds, near-zero latency and eliminating interference.
- 10GE Wired Performance w/ PoE++Featuring a 10 Gbps Ethernet uplink port to ensure the best possible overall throughout and high bandwidth connectivity; while supporting PoE++(802.3bt) for easy and flexible deployment.
- High-Density ConnectivityConnects up to 2,000 clients and improves overall Wi-Fi performance in dense environments with OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and BSS Coloring. (Actual capacity depends on wireless environment and client traffic.)
- Integrated into Omada SDNOmada Software Defined Networking (SDN) platform integrates network devices including access points, switches & gateways with multiple controller options offered - Omada Hardware controller, Software Controller or Cloud-based controller*(Contact TP-Link for Cloud-Based Controller Details). Standalone mode is also supported.
- Cloud Access & Omada CompatibilityRemote Cloud access and Omada app enables centralized cloud management of the whole network from different sites all controlled from a single interface anywhere, anytime. | Band or radio | Manufacturer-listed maximum link rate |
|---|---|
| 6GHz | 4,804Mbps |
| 5GHz radio 1 and radio 2 | 4,804Mbps combined on the US product page; the V1 datasheet lists 2,402Mbps per radio |
| 2.4GHz | 1,148Mbps |
| All bands combined | 10.8Gbps, marketed aggregate |
These are manufacturer maximum link-rate specifications, not measured throughput. The aggregate adds the rates of multiple radios and bands; it is not a single-client speed estimate. Real performance depends on client capabilities, signal conditions, configuration, interference, and the capacity of the wired and upstream network. No independent hands-on throughput, latency, coverage, roaming, or stability test is established here.
Wi-Fi 6E’s 6GHz band is useful only when client devices support it and its use is permitted under the applicable regional rules. TP-Link lists regional transmission-power specifications separately, so do not assume US figures or capabilities apply elsewhere.
Power and 10GbE: what the installation needs
TP-Link’s US specifications list one 10Gbps Ethernet port and IEEE 802.3bt PoE++ support. For full functionality, the page specifies either 802.3bt PoE or a 12V/4.5A DC supply. The included power adapter may therefore be an option when the network switch does not provide the required PoE.

Lower PoE classes do not provide the full feature set according to the US product page:
- 802.3bt PoE: listed for full functionality.
- 802.3at PoE: the 5GHz-2 and 6GHz radios are off.
- 802.3af PoE: the radios are off; only the main chip and LAN operate.
For a switch-powered installation, check both the port’s PoE class and the switch’s available power budget, as well as its port speed. A 10GbE PoE++ switch may be appropriate where those requirements are needed, but it is not mandatory if you use the specified DC adapter and have a suitable 10GbE wired connection. Confirm the precise requirements for the product’s region and hardware revision before installation.
Capacity and coverage claims: useful context, not guarantees
TP-Link’s product page uses the phrase “High-Density Connectivity up to 2000 Clients.” It also lists 2,000+ connected clients, while the product overview gives a 2,040+ concurrent-client figure. These are vendor claims, not independently verified capacity results or a recommended number of active users for a given application.

The overview also lists nominal coverage of 200 m² (2,150 ft²). Treat that as a manufacturer figure, not a prediction for a particular building. Walls, floor plan, interference, client devices, access-point placement, and network configuration all affect actual coverage and capacity. A deployment serving many active users or requiring dependable coverage should be planned around the site and workload rather than these headline maximums.
Omada management and features
TP-Link lists the Omada App, OC200 and OC300 hardware controllers, Omada Software Controller, and Omada Cloud-Based Controller as management options. Its Omada SDN overview describes centralized management spanning access points, switches, and routers. The manufacturer also lists multiple SSIDs, band steering, load balancing, airtime fairness, mesh, seamless roaming, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, BSS Coloring, and WPA3.
These are listed capabilities, not guarantees of a particular roaming or capacity outcome. Client support, radio conditions, configuration, controller and firmware versions, cabling, and upstream capacity all matter. The available product information does not establish a current controller compatibility matrix for every hardware revision and region. Before deploying, verify the exact unit’s firmware and compatibility with the controller version you plan to use.

Is the EAP690E HD end of life?
Yes—TP-Link’s US product page currently labels the EAP690E HD End of Life. That is the manufacturer’s US product-status statement; it does not establish that every reseller has exhausted remaining inventory, nor does it prove the product has the same status worldwide. A dated V1 datasheet (published August 24, 2023) remains a technical reference, not evidence of current inventory or support.
Before buying, confirm the seller’s terms and the support situation that applies to your location and hardware revision:
- Whether the item is new, used, or refurbished, and whether the stated condition matches the listing.
- What warranty and return policy the seller actually provides.
- Whether current firmware is available and whether the unit remains supported by your intended Omada controller.
- Whether the model’s lifecycle status in your region is acceptable for the planned deployment.
Do not infer current stock, warranty coverage, or ongoing firmware support from the manufacturer’s product page alone.

Who should consider it?
The EAP690E HD may suit a buyer who specifically needs a ceiling- or wall-mounted business AP with Wi-Fi 6E, a 10GbE uplink, and Omada management—and who has verified the regional lifecycle and support position. Its high aggregate radio-rate and client-count claims are not substitutes for a site-specific design or performance evidence.
For a new installation where long-term firmware and lifecycle support are priorities, verify those points before committing. If comparing other access points, compare documented lifecycle and support status, wired port speed and PoE requirements, supported radio bands and client compatibility, controller model, and seller warranty and availability. The available specifications do not establish a like-for-like alternative model comparison.
