The TP-Link Litewave LS1005G is the likely match for the five-port gigabit switch in the headline. Tom’s Hardware reported an Amazon price of $7.99 on June 27, 2026, but a price-history page later listed a $5.99 low. That means the available records do not support calling $7.99 its lowest-ever price, and neither dated price confirms what it costs today.
What the TP-Link switch does
An unmanaged Ethernet switch adds wired network ports. Connect one switch port to an available LAN port on your router, then connect wired devices—such as a computer, console, television, or NAS—to the remaining ports. TP-Link describes its five-port gigabit switches as plug-and-play models for home or office use.
Gigabit capability does not by itself make an internet connection faster. The actual link speed depends on the router, Ethernet cables, and connected devices as well as the switch. The switch expands the number of wired connections; it does not upgrade your internet plan.
Is it really $7.99?
The likely product is the TP-Link Litewave LS1005G, although the deal headline does not give a model number. Tom’s Hardware reported an Amazon offer of $7.99, reduced from $16.99, on June 27, 2026 (deal report). That was a dated offer, not a live price check.

A third-party Pricehistory.app snapshot dated August 29, 2026 listed a $9.99 offer and a $5.99 historical low for the LS1005G; it also notes that prices may vary with location, shipping, and availability (price history). On those records, $7.99 was not the lowest listed price. Check the current seller listing for price, stock, and exact model before buying.
What to compare before choosing a switch
- Port count: A five-port model typically gives you one port for the router connection and four for wired devices. Choose more ports if you need additional connections or want room to expand.
- Management: An unmanaged switch is the straightforward choice when you only need more Ethernet ports. A managed or Easy Smart model adds configuration and monitoring features, which are useful only if you need them.
- Mounting and casing: Check whether the specific model and revision supports desktop or wall mounting and whether its casing suits the installation location.
- Power and revision: Confirm the adapter and hardware revision on the regional product page for the exact model. Specifications for one TP-Link switch or region should not be assumed to apply to another.
- Gigabit support: Verify that the router, cables, and endpoints support gigabit Ethernet if that is the speed you expect.
TP-Link alternatives with documented specifications
These alternatives help illustrate the trade-off between a basic five-port switch and a model with more ports and management tools. They are not evidence that either model was the $7.99 deal.
