Which MacBook deal should you choose?
Choose by workload and configuration, not by the largest percentage or dollar reduction. Macworld recommends the M5 MacBook Air for most people and says the Pro is worth considering at the right price. The configurations listed here vary in screen size, memory, and storage, so a lower price does not make them direct substitutes.

For everyday use and portability: M5 MacBook Air
The 13-inch Air is the smaller option among the listed Air deals; the 15-inch model offers a larger screen. Within either size, check whether 512GB or 1TB of storage and 16GB or 24GB of memory better fit your apps and files. Macworld’s reported Air discounts range from $65 to $100 on 512GB configurations; 9to5Toys reported $150 off two 1TB configurations.
For a Pro-tier configuration: MacBook Pro
The reported $500 saving applies to the 14-inch M5 Pro model with 24GB RAM and 2TB storage—not to every 14-inch MacBook Pro. The report does not state that configuration’s deal price or list price, so the exact dollar amount payable cannot be determined from that report. Macworld separately reported $163 off a 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro with 16GB memory and 1TB storage. These are different chip tiers and configurations; do not use one model’s discount as a proxy for the other.

How to judge the advertised savings
Macworld says its October 2026 roundup reflects price increases Apple made in June 2026. Compare an offer with the current list price and, where credible history exists for the exact configuration, its prior prices. Neither the deal reports cited here establish a record low for these exact models, so the discounts should not be described as record-setting.
- Match the chip and model tier before comparing prices.
- Confirm screen size, memory, and storage on the listing; similar product names can conceal different configurations.
- Check the final price, seller, condition, and availability immediately before checkout. The October 2 reports do not guarantee a later price or stock.
