There is not yet enough verified evidence to name five overpowered weapons in Gears of War: E-Day. The official material explains weapon mechanics and multiplayer customization, but the available reviews are campaign-only or still awaiting Siege and Versus impressions. With the game’s listed global release date of October 6, 2026, a definitive multiplayer ranking would be premature as of October 3, 2026. Here is what the evidence does establish—and how to judge a credible top five once comparable play data exists.
Why a verified top five is not available yet
A weapon being powerful in a campaign encounter does not establish that it is overpowered in competitive play. Difficulty, enemy type, ammunition availability, upgrades, class, and mode can all change what “best” means. The material currently available does not provide comparable per-weapon damage, time-to-kill, pick rates, win rates, or an official balance ranking.
The distinction matters for E-Day: PC Gamer’s October 1, 2026 review-in-progress says multiplayer was unavailable to its reviewer before release, while Windows Central’s review says Siege and Versus impressions were still to come. Those reviews can inform campaign discussion, but they cannot establish a live multiplayer meta. PC Gamer’s review-in-progress and Windows Central’s review name weapons and mods without publishing a comparative top five.

Five weapons to watch—not a confirmed ranking
The available sources name only a small number of specific weapons and do not establish that any is overpowered. Treat these as candidates to assess after launch, not ranked winners.
1. UIR Markza
Windows Central names the UIR Markza in its in-progress review. That makes it a reasonable weapon to watch, but the review does not provide comparative damage, accuracy, or multiplayer results that would support calling it overpowered.

- Figure comes with a customized Lancer Assault Rifle and Snub Pistol Sidearm
- Figure has custom articulation and includes a stylized display base with brand specific callout
2. Locust Breechshot
Windows Central describes the Breechshot as an axe-hilted adaptation of the Markza. Its distinctive design is not evidence of superior performance: the source does not establish its damage, practical range, or standing against other weapons.

3. Prototype Lancer
The Coalition uses the Prototype Lancer to explain a multiplayer customization detail: in Horde Siege, its weapon mods and cosmetics carry across classes when the weapon is equipped by another class. This makes class and build context important when evaluating it, but says nothing about whether its balance is excessive. The official multiplayer deep dive explains the example.
Rank #3

4. Other weapons with modded recoil or scopes
PC Gamer discusses campaign mods that affect recoil and scopes, but the available review does not establish a named weapon as dominant in multiplayer. A weapon may feel substantially different after a mod changes its handling; any comparison should identify the mod and mode rather than treat that configuration as the unmodified weapon.
5. Automatic weapons built around short bursts
The Coalition says automatic-weapon recoil is tuned to reward short bursts. This is a general handling principle, not evidence that a particular automatic weapon is overpowered. A reliable comparison would need to measure how controllable each weapon is in actual engagements and against its alternatives. The official gameplay update describes the handling changes.

What E-Day’s weapon mechanics mean for balance
The Coalition says all projectiles use simulated ballistics and travel time. When firing beyond a weapon’s range, players need to lead moving targets. That makes effective range and projectile speed meaningful comparison points: a weapon’s theoretical damage matters less if its shots are difficult to land at the distances where it is used.
- Range and leading: Compare practical hit consistency at distance, not just whether a shot can reach a target.
- Recoil and burst control: The official update says recoil on some automatic weapons is tuned to reward short bursts, so sustained fire and controlled bursts may produce different results.
- Scope sway: First-person scopes have sway, which can affect precision and time to land a follow-up shot.
- Aiming position: Shoulder swapping is available while aiming, a handling option players should account for when comparing weapons in cover.
- Reload decisions: Active reload is part of weapon management. Design director Matt Searcy said it adds tension and involves the risk of jamming a weapon or gaining extra damage; that describes the mechanic, not a specific weapon’s balance. The comment appears in the Official Xbox Podcast transcript.
How to judge a real overpowered-weapons list
A useful ranking should state its evidence window and mode, then compare weapons under conditions readers can understand. One list should not quietly mix campaign utility, Horde Siege value, and Versus performance: they answer different questions.

- NECA Gears of War Series 1 Action Figure Locust Sniper
- Specify the mode and build. Name campaign, Horde Siege, or Versus, and identify relevant class and mods. The official multiplayer guide describes weapon, armor, and tactical gear mods; in Siege, weapon customization can carry across classes.
- Use comparable performance evidence. Look for measured damage and time-to-kill under stated conditions, alongside pick or win rates where those are available. The sources available here publish no comparable figures.
- Account for handling. Assess range, projectile travel and leading, recoil, scope sway, reload risk, and ammunition economy instead of treating damage alone as power.
- Separate utility from dominance. A weapon that is especially useful against a certain enemy or in one campaign encounter may not be unusually strong against human opponents or across a full match.
- Recheck after balance updates. A ranking tied to a particular patch or evidence window can become outdated when weapon tuning changes.
What early reviews can—and cannot—tell you
PC Gamer’s October 1, 2026 review-in-progress covers campaign play and discusses mods affecting recoil, scopes, and chainsaw revving. Its own account says multiplayer was not available to the reviewer pre-release and that a scored review would follow after multiplayer play. Windows Central names the UIR Markza and Locust Breechshot, but says its Siege and Versus impressions were not yet included. These are useful early observations, not evidence of a five-weapon multiplayer hierarchy.
For now, the most accurate answer to “Which E-Day weapons are overpowered?” is that no verified five-weapon ranking is supported by the available evidence. A later list should identify its mode and date, distinguish measured results from opinion, and account for mods and class context.
