No app can reliably show you your son’s live iPhone location from his phone number alone. These services require location sharing to be set up on the iPhone, or—in GeoZilla’s case—a location request that the recipient approves. For most Apple households, start with Apple Find My and Family Sharing; compare the other options if you need cross-platform sharing or extra family features.
Can you track an iPhone by phone number?
A phone number by itself does not give a parent access to an iPhone’s live location. The documented options below rely on location sharing enabled on the device or a request the recipient consents to. They are tools for family safety and coordination, not silent number-based tracking.
That distinction matters when choosing an app: expect to set it up on your son’s iPhone, grant the permissions it requests, and agree on when location sharing will be used. For an older child, discuss the arrangement rather than treating it as covert monitoring.

1. Apple Find My with Family Sharing: the best starting point for Apple households
Apple’s built-in option is the most direct choice when your family uses Apple devices. Set up Family Sharing and location sharing on the relevant devices; family members can then see shared locations in Find My, and Apple supports notifications when a family member’s location changes. Apple says, “Each person can decide whether to share their location and make their devices visible in the Find My app.” Apple Family Sharing and the iPhone location-sharing guide explain the setup and controls.
For a child, Apple says that enabling automatic location sharing can make the child’s location visible to parents and guardians in the family group. Children and teens with Screen Time may be unable to change their own location-sharing settings. Review the settings on the devices when you configure the family group. 2. Life360: family circles, place alerts, and location history
Life360 is designed around family Circles and offers location sharing, Place Alerts, and location history. Membership tiers differ by market, so check the current plan details for your region on Life360’s site.

3. Google Maps Location Sharing: convenient for existing Google Maps users
Google Maps can share a person’s real-time location with selected people in a Google app or service. Google describes it as a feature that shares location “from devices with people you choose”; it is not a phone-number lookup. See Google Maps Location Sharing help for how sharing works.
Do not confuse this with Google Family Link’s child-location feature. The cited Family Link help covers locating a child’s Android device or compatible Fitbit after location sharing is set up; it does not establish a way to locate a child’s iPhone. Google’s Family Link guidance describes the supported devices.

4. Findmykids: child-focused location and place alerts
Findmykids describes iPhone support, current location, route information, and alerts for designated places. Its setup instructions call for installing the app on both the parent’s and child’s devices and granting requested permissions, including background location. Review Findmykids’ product information and iPhone setup guidance before installation.
The company advertises free and paid tiers, but features and pricing can change. Findmykids reports that 3.4 million parents use the service monthly and that it covers 180 countries; those are company-reported figures, with no year stated on the cited page, not independently verified measurements. Check its current product page for the latest claims and plan terms.

5. GeoZilla: an SMS location request that requires consent
GeoZilla describes a flow in which the requester verifies a phone number and sends an SMS location request. The recipient must consent before the requester receives a location. GeoZilla says its app works on iPhone and Android; the SMS step is an invitation to share, not location tracking from a number alone. Choose based on the devices your family uses, the setup your son is willing and able to complete, whether you need arrival/departure alerts or history, and how the service handles pausing sharing and previously collected data. Check current prices, privacy terms, and availability for your country directly with the provider.

Set up sharing with clear expectations
- Choose a service that fits your devices. Apple families can begin with Find My and Family Sharing; cross-platform needs may make one of the other services a better fit.
- Configure it on your son’s iPhone. Follow the service’s current instructions on the device and enable the location permissions it requires. For Findmykids, install and configure the app on both parent and child devices.
- Confirm what is shared and with whom. Check the family group, Circle, or selected-person list, along with any place alerts and history features you intend to use.
- Agree on when sharing is expected. Explain the safety or coordination purpose, when you may check the location, and how to raise concerns about the arrangement.
- Review controls and data handling. Learn how to pause sharing and whether doing so affects only future updates or also previously collected history. Life360 says its off control does not erase history already collected.
