The quickest sensible way to build a mobile app depends on what you need most: platform-specific control, one shared codebase, or a visual building workflow. No single tool is proven to be universally fastest. This curated set focuses on documented options for development, testing, backend setup, and release—rather than claiming a ranked list of 25.

Choose a development path before choosing tools

Start with your target platforms, comfort with code, and need for customization. The official tool documentation describes capabilities, but it does not provide a neutral head-to-head speed test or cost comparison.

  • Platform-specific control: Use Xcode for Apple platforms or Android Studio for Android. These environments bring coding, building, running, debugging, and testing tools together.
  • A shared codebase: Consider Flutter or Expo. Both support cross-platform development, but they use different ecosystems and workflows.
  • Visual development: Consider FlutterFlow if its builder and action workflows fit the app. Check whether its visual approach can handle the custom logic your project needs.

Native development and testing tools

Xcode and Apple’s development tools

Xcode supports building, running, debugging, and testing apps for Apple platforms. Its workflow includes previews for Apple platforms and tools such as Instruments for examining app behavior. Apple also lists tools including Device Hub, Accessibility Inspector, Icon Composer, Reality Composer, Create ML, and Xcode Cloud within its development ecosystem. Which of these matter depends on the app: accessibility checks, for example, are distinct from performance analysis or build automation.

Apple’s testing and distribution path includes TestFlight and App Store distribution. Apple Developer Program membership is required for those services, so account requirements belong in the release plan, not just the coding plan.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Android Studio and Android’s toolchain

Android Studio is the main integrated environment for Android development. Android’s documentation covers running apps on virtual devices through the Android Emulator as well as on physical devices. The wider toolchain includes the Android SDK, Gradle for builds, and JDK signing tools for release work.

For broader device coverage in testing, Firebase Test Lab is another named option in Android’s release and testing documentation. Verify current setup requirements for each tool before adopting it; emulator, physical-device, and hosted testing solve related but different problems.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Cross-platform development from one codebase

Flutter and Dart

Flutter is an open-source framework for building apps across platforms from one codebase, using Dart. Flutter highlights hot reload as a way to iterate rapidly during development. That feature can shorten the feedback loop while coding, but it does not establish a guaranteed project timeline or prove Flutter is faster overall than another approach.

Expo for the React Native ecosystem

Expo documents Android, iOS, and web targets alongside development and delivery workflows for React Native. Its named tools and services include Expo CLI, Expo SDK, Expo Go, Expo Snack, Orbit, Expo Launch, EAS Build, EAS Submit, EAS Workflows, and EAS Update. These cover different jobs—from trying an app during development to cloud builds, submissions, workflows, and updates—so choose only the pieces your release process needs.

Expo’s tool set is documented capability, not evidence that every Expo project ships faster than a native or Flutter project. Team experience, app requirements, and release constraints affect the choice.

Visual building and backend setup

FlutterFlow for a visual workflow

FlutterFlow offers a visual builder, live previews, and an action flow editor, with connections for Firebase, Supabase, and REST APIs. Its documentation also describes custom Dart and Flutter support and code export. Those options can help when a visual-first project needs integrations or extensions, but they do not remove the need to assess how much custom logic the app requires or whether the team is comfortable maintaining the resulting workflow.

Supabase with Expo

Supabase’s Expo React Native quickstart is a concrete backend setup example. Its development instructions use Expo Go, an iOS simulator, or an Android emulator. This is useful when a project has already chosen Expo and wants a documented starting point for connecting a backend; it is not a general comparison of backend platforms.

Plan for testing and release, not just the first build

A tool that makes an initial screen easy to assemble does not complete the app. Include device testing, signing, store submission, and update workflows in your definition of “fast.” For Apple distribution, account for the Apple Developer Program requirement for TestFlight and App Store distribution. Android documentation says developer verification starts as a 2026 requirement; check the current Android developer verification guidance for rollout details before relying on a release procedure.

  • Decide which real devices and simulators you must support.
  • Identify who will handle signing and store submission.
  • Check whether builds, submissions, and updates need automation.
  • Confirm any account, verification, or service requirements against current official guidance.

A practical way to choose

  1. List the platforms: If the app is for one platform and needs platform-specific capabilities, begin with that platform’s native environment. If you need multiple platforms, evaluate Flutter and Expo against the same requirements.
  2. Choose your working style: Prefer writing code and controlling implementation directly? Compare native development with Flutter or Expo. Prefer visual assembly? Try FlutterFlow’s documented workflow and test whether it accommodates the app’s custom behavior.
  3. Map testing and delivery: Identify the simulators, physical devices, signing tools, and release services required for your target stores.
  4. Validate the backend path: If the app needs a backend, verify that your selected framework and builder support the integration and development setup you plan to use.
  5. Run a small proof of concept: Build one representative screen or workflow, including a real integration and a test-device run. This reveals fit for your team without assuming a vendor feature guarantees faster delivery.
