ToolCMB is a free collection of online tools for everyday file and utility tasks. It says its tools need no sign-up and process your files inside the browser rather than uploading them. ToolCMB’s published material does not include a personal account of why the site was built, so this article covers what the site says it does, what it does not show, and how you can check its claims yourself.
What ToolCMB says it is
ToolCMB describes itself as a set of fast, free, private online tools. Its homepage lists work with images, PDFs, videos, audio, subtitles, code, and other tasks, and groups the tools into categories including audio, PDF, SEO/website, subtitle, video, image, developer, calculator, and generator. The site says you do not need to create an account, that there is no watermark and no daily limit, and that non-intrusive ads support the service.
The site also says its tools work in current desktop and mobile browsers and can keep working offline once a page has finished loading. File-size limits depend on your device’s memory, so very large files may fail on older or low-memory hardware. These are ToolCMB’s own statements; they have not been independently tested.

Image resizer
The image resizer lets you set dimensions in pixels, by percentage, or by print size, and it can apply presets. It can process several images in one batch and package the results as a single ZIP download. The site lists several supported input and output formats but the description does not give a full list, so check the tool page for the exact formats before relying on it for a specific file type.
JSON formatter
The JSON formatter covers the common developer chores: formatting raw JSON, validating it, repairing malformed input, viewing the structure, and converting it to YAML, CSV, XML, or TypeScript. ToolCMB says this work runs in a browser Web Worker, which keeps the heavy processing off the main page thread so the interface can stay responsive while a large file is handled.

- Fast mode copies the existing encoded video without re-encoding it. This is quick, but the cut may snap to the nearest key frame, so the start or end point can be slightly off from where you clicked.
- Exact mode re-encodes the video so cuts land on the precise frame you choose. The result is frame-accurate, but processing takes longer.
Use fast mode when a few frames of drift do not matter, and exact mode when the cut point must be precise.

PDF compressor
The PDF compressor offers more than one compression setting. The lossless option aims to reduce size without degrading content, while the image-resolution options reduce file size by downsampling the images inside the document. Image-resolution compression is the setting that can visibly reduce quality, so compare the output before sending a compressed file to anyone.
QR generator
The QR generator creates codes in the browser, lets you customize their appearance, and exports PNG, SVG, PDF, or EPS files. SVG and EPS are vector formats that scale without losing sharpness, which suits print. The site describes only static codes, meaning the encoded content is fixed when the code is created. The site’s description does not mention editable or dynamic codes.

What the privacy claim means
ToolCMB’s homepage says files are processed locally using JavaScript and WebAssembly and are not uploaded, stored, or shared. The individual tool pages repeat this claim. In plain terms, the claim is that the file you select stays on your device while the tool runs.

A site can process your files locally and still load third-party scripts, use analytics, or set cookies, and ToolCMB’s published material does not explain those parts of its operation. The site’s homepage also displays figures such as “100%” processed in the browser and a typical processing time of “< 1s”. The site does not name an independent organization or describe a measurement method for those figures, so treat them as ToolCMB’s own statements rather than established measurements.

How to check the local-processing claim yourself
You do not have to take the privacy statement on trust. A browser’s developer tools will show whether a file leaves your device during a task.
- Open the ToolCMB tool you want to test in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
- Press F12, or Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows and Linux or Cmd+Option+I on macOS, to open developer tools.
- Select the Network tab and tick the option to preserve the log, so requests are not cleared when the page changes.
- Clear the existing list, then select a file in the tool and run the operation.
- Review the requests listed. A local tool should show no upload request carrying your file. Small requests for the page’s scripts, styles, or ads are normal and do not mean your file was sent.
This check shows whether your file is sent during that session. It does not audit the site’s code or its data practices, and it should be repeated for any tool you rely on.
Why the first-person origin story is not here
The title suggests a personal explanation of why the project was built. ToolCMB’s published material does not contain one, and no creator’s name, role, or motive is stated in the material reviewed for this article. Rather than invent one, this article describes the site’s stated purpose and design approach. If you need the project’s history, the site’s own pages or its contact channels are the place to ask.

- Task coverage: whether the tool does everything you need in one place.
- Supported formats: the exact input and output types, since the site lists these per tool.
- Processing location: whether files stay local, verified with the check above rather than assumed from a homepage claim.
- Browser and device requirements, and the file-size limit your device can handle.
- Quality trade-offs, such as lossy compression or re-encoding, and whether the output matches your needs.
- Export options, including whether you get vector formats, batch downloads, or a ZIP file.
