Titan Company reported 25% year-on-year growth across its consumer businesses for Q2 FY27, but its shares fell nearly 4% intraday on October 7, 2026. The market reaction was reported alongside jewellery growth of about 21%—below the roughly 25% expectation cited for Nomura—as well as high-base gold-coin sales and festive demand shifting into Q3. The reports reviewed do not establish GST as the reason for the decline, so it remains an open question rather than a confirmed overhang.
What Titan reported for Q2 FY27
Titan’s October 6, 2026 filing covers the quarter ended September 30. The reported growth rates are year on year, rounded to the nearest integer, provisional and subject to limited review by statutory auditors. The 25% headline refers to consumer-business growth, not profit growth.

Titan said international growth includes Damas Jewellery, in which it holds a 67% stake and which was consolidated from January 2026. The international figure therefore reflects that consolidation as well as the reported business performance.

Why the shares fell despite the growth
Business Standard reported that Titan shares fell nearly 4% intraday on October 7 and reached an intraday low of ₹4,371. Its report contrasted jewellery growth of 21% with a roughly 25% expectation attributed to Nomura. It also said Tanishq, Mia and Zoya together grew 20%, below that cited estimate. These are comparisons with one brokerage’s expectation, not proof that Titan missed the market consensus; analyst estimates can differ.

The timing of the price move matters. The Economic Times reported that Titan closed at ₹4,550 on October 6, down 0.66% in that session. That prior-day closing return is distinct from the sharper intraday decline reported the next morning.
Jewellery performance was uneven
Titan’s filing said demand was healthy through most of the quarter but softened toward its close as the festive calendar shifted into Q3 FY27. Within jewellery, studded sales grew in the early thirties and plain gold jewellery grew about 20%, while investment-led gold-coin demand declined by a high single digit from a high base. Buyer growth was in the mid-single digits and average ticket-size growth was double digit.
Business Standard’s account also cited Shradh timing and a high base associated with increased gold prices. Taken together, the reported explanations point to a combination of mix, comparison base and demand timing—not a demonstrated single cause for the share-price fall.

The reaction should not be read as weakness across every business. Titan reported about 30% growth in watches, with analog watches in the early thirties and smartwatches recovering to high-single-digit growth. EyeCare grew about 28%. CaratLane grew 32%, while Tanishq, Mia, Zoya and beYon together grew 20%.

Is GST the key overhang?
The available contemporaneous evidence does not establish GST as the key overhang. Titan’s filing discussed segment growth, coin demand and the festive-calendar shift but did not mention GST. The market coverage reviewed focused on jewellery growth relative to the cited estimate and demand timing, without attributing the sell-off to GST.
That does not resolve how GST treatment or a transition might affect Titan’s categories; the cited reports do not set out that analysis. A claim that GST caused the quarter’s growth pattern or the October 7 share decline would go beyond what these sources establish.
