Texas Instruments’ free TINA-TI is a SPICE-based analog circuit simulator for DC, transient, and frequency-domain analysis. The headline upgrade was TINA-TI 9.1, announced in 2011: TI said it ran an average of five times faster than version 7.0 and added more than 500 part models and reference designs, including more than 130 new power models. Those figures describe TI’s historical announcement—not a current independent benchmark or the version identified in today’s download listing.

What is TINA-TI?

Texas Instruments describes TINA-TI as a complimentary version of DesignSoft’s TINA, built for simulating analog circuits using SPICE. TI lists DC, transient, and frequency-domain analyses, along with post-processing and virtual instruments. Its TINA-TI product page says: “TINA-TI provides all the conventional DC, transient and frequency domain analysis of SPICE and much more.”

“Complimentary” means the TI edition is free to download, not that it includes every capability of the full TINA product. TI says some full-version features are not supported in TINA-TI, but its product page does not enumerate the current differences.

What TINA-TI 9.1 added

In a May 2, 2011 announcement, TI described TINA-TI 9.1 as a substantial upgrade over version 7.0. The company reported an average 5X speed increase and more than 500 part models and reference designs, including more than 130 new power models. These are TI’s claims about that 2011 release and comparison; they should not be read as present-day benchmark results.

The additional models and reference designs were intended to make it easier to simulate circuits built around TI components. For a specific design, the useful question is whether the parts you need are represented in the model library—not simply how many models were reported in the historical announcement. See TI’s 2011 TINA-TI 9.1 announcement for the original upgrade details.

What version is available now?

TI’s English download listing displays a release date of August 23, 2024, but the listing shows no numeric version. That means the page does not establish that the current download is version 9.1; 9.1 is the version named in the 2011 announcement. Check the official download page for the available installer and its current listing details.

Do not confuse TINA-TI with newer full TINA releases

DesignSoft’s release notes for TINA v16, dated December 18, 2025, list cross-platform support, dark mode, LTspice .asc import and conversion, and harmonic-balance analysis. These notes concern the full TINA/TINACloud product line; they do not establish that those capabilities are included in TI’s separate complimentary TINA-TI edition. See DesignSoft’s TINA “What’s new” page for the v16 information.

How to decide whether TINA-TI fits your project

Choose a simulator based on the circuit and workflow you actually need, rather than on an old speed claim alone. Compare:

  • Component models: Check whether the vendor provides usable models for the parts in your design.
  • Analyses: Confirm that the simulator supports the DC, transient, frequency-domain, or other analysis your work requires.
  • Operating system: Verify compatibility with your computer and operating system before installing.
  • Current edition and release: Distinguish a complimentary or limited edition from the vendor’s full product, and verify which version the download page actually identifies.

LTspice is another free SPICE simulator; Analog Devices’ official page lists a Windows 10/11 x64 version 26.0.2. That confirms it as an alternative, not that it is universally better or directly equivalent to TINA-TI. See the Analog Devices LTspice page for its current listing.
