Verdict: Ting can suit people who want a lower-cost plan, have modest or predictable data use, and can confirm local coverage and phone compatibility before switching. It is not an automatic bargain for everyone: actual reception depends on location, plan costs depend on data use and eligibility, and recent customer complaints flag billing, porting, and support as issues worth checking. The available customer comments are not representative enough to prove how often those problems occur.

Who Ting is a good fit for

Ting is most plausible for someone who uses little or predictable data, has an unlocked phone that Ting confirms is compatible, and has verified reception where they live, work, and travel. Its plans include both shared pay-per-use data and fixed data allowances, so the right choice depends on how much data you actually use and how you prefer to handle overages.

Compare other carriers before switching if you rely on strong high-speed data use, cannot confirm coverage in your regular locations, or need a particularly straightforward support and account-resolution experience. Check hotspot rules, top-up or throttling behavior, total charges, and the porting process—not just the advertised monthly price.

Ting’s help-center plan table describes data allowances and post-allowance behavior in more detail. It lists Flex at $10 per line with no included data, Set 5 at $25 with 5 GB, Set 12 at $35 with 12 GB, Unlimited at $45 with 22 GB, and Unlimited Pro at $55 with 35 GB. The marketing page and help article use different plan labels and describe different offers; do not assume that the Unlimited 25 offer has the same terms as the help-center Unlimited plan.

  • Flex: Data is shared across devices on an account and costs $5 per GB. The help article says use above 1 GB automatically incurs another $5 per GB, without a speed reduction to 2G.
  • Plans with included data: After the included allowance, Ting describes top-ups or reduced 2G speeds as alternatives. The help table lists a one-time fast-data top-up at $5.
  • Hotspot: The help table lists hotspot allowances for the first 5, 8, 12, or 18 GB on applicable fixed-data plans. Hotspot is unavailable from a data top-up.

For a meaningful cost comparison, estimate your monthly data use and add any applicable taxes or fees, hotspot needs, and eligibility-linked discounts. Ting’s published plan prices are not a guarantee that the same offer will remain available.

Coverage and reliability depend on your locations

Ting advertises nationwide LTE and 5G coverage, but a nationwide claim cannot establish whether reception will be reliable at your home, workplace, or usual travel routes. The available information does not establish which host network applies to every plan or provide a location-specific performance finding.

Before switching, use Ting’s current address-level coverage tools and confirm the network and plan details for your intended service. Check the places where you spend time, not only a broad coverage map. Do not assume that a promotional testimonial about using the same network as another carrier guarantees identical coverage or performance for your address.

What customer reviews do—and do not—show

Ting’s own customer testimonial page features positive comments about low bills and helpful support. It quotes customer Tammy saying, “When you call Ting, a real person answers the phone! On top of that, I get the exact same network at a fraction of the price.” That is a testimonial published by Ting, not an independently verified service guarantee.

Recent Trustpilot submissions include individual complaints about support response, payments, billing, cancellation, unlocking, and number porting. One review dated August 13, 2026 describes a service suspension after a disputed payment issue. BBB customer reviews also include mixed individual accounts, such as reports of billing after cancellation, compatibility confusion, and delayed technical support, alongside positive comments about reception or customer service.

How much weight to give satisfaction claims

Ting’s testimonial page says more than 10,000 surveyed mobile customers rated it among the top three providers and links to a 2019 report. Treat that as an older provider-published claim, not a current independent ranking.

Consumer Reports’ provider table was published in January 2023 and describes a 2022 Winter Survey of 39,402 US members, with 41,734 provider ratings. Its overall satisfaction score draws on value, customer support, data service, cellular reception, and consumer experience. Consumer Reports cautions that its members may not represent the general US population. This is historical context, not a current 2026 Ting rating; the precise numeric ratings in the table should not be repeated without verifying the relevant row in the original PDF.

Checks to make before switching to Ting

  1. Check local coverage: Use Ting’s current coverage tools for your home, workplace, and frequent routes; confirm the network and plan details that apply to your account.
  2. Confirm your exact phone: Ting says a bring-your-own phone must be unlocked before activation. An unlocked phone is not automatically compatible, so verify the exact model before buying a device or starting a port.
  3. Estimate the full monthly cost: Compare your expected data use against Flex’s per-GB charges or the included allowance, then account for top-ups, hotspot use, taxes or fees, and any discount eligibility.
  4. Read the applicable plan terms: Confirm the allowance, what happens when it runs out, hotspot rules, and whether the advertised offer is available to you.
  5. Check account support and switching steps: Find the current contact channels and escalation options, and confirm cancellation and number-porting requirements with Ting and your existing carrier.
  6. Keep your old service active during the move: Do not cancel the existing line before the new service is active and your number transfer is complete.

How to compare Ting with another carrier

Comparison point What to verify
Local coverage Reception at home, work, and regular travel locations, plus the actual network used by the plan.
Total monthly cost Line price, data overages or top-ups, hotspot use, taxes or fees, and eligibility-linked discounts.
Data behavior Shared pay-per-use data versus a fixed high-speed allowance, top-ups, throttling, and the meaning of any “unlimited” label.
Device eligibility Unlocked status, exact-model compatibility, and any network-specific requirements.
Support and account handling Contact channels, hours, technical escalation, cancellation steps, and number-porting process.

Use your own usage and locations to decide whether Ting’s terms are a better fit; a headline price or an individual review cannot answer those questions by itself.
