Paychex offers time tracking through Paychex Flex, including mobile and web punches, timesheets, a shared-device kiosk, and time-clock options. The right setup depends on where employees work, how they should clock in, which time and attendance features your plan includes, and how hours reach payroll.
Which time tracker works with Paychex?
For businesses using Paychex payroll, the most direct option is Paychex Flex Time or Paychex Flex Time Essentials. Paychex describes Flex Time as integrated with its Flex payroll ecosystem, with time data flowing into payroll. That is the vendor’s description; the exact features available depend on the offering and account configuration. See Paychex’s time and attendance product page for its comparison and current plan details.
Paychex’s feature comparison covers collection methods such as mobile and web punches, kiosk punching, timesheets, and clock methods, but the available set varies between Flex Time and Time Essentials. It also describes capabilities including timecard approvals, scheduling, overtime alerts, reporting, labor allocation, geolocation, and time-off tracking. Confirm that the package you are considering includes the specific collection method and management features your team needs.
Ways employees can track time with Paychex
Mobile punches through the Paychex Flex app
The Paychex Flex mobile app gives employees and managers access to time-related tasks. Paychex describes mobile punches, timecard review, approvals, and related scheduling or time-off functions. The mobile option can suit employees working remotely, traveling between jobs, or working in the field, provided the account is configured for the relevant features.

Paychex says its Flex app and Flex Time Kiosk allow employees to clock in and out, log breaks, and track hours from mobile devices, with optional GPS location tracking. Treat GPS and other options as features to verify for your plan and configuration, not as settings guaranteed to be available in every account. Details are on Paychex’s mobile apps page.
Web punches and timesheets
Paychex’s comparison includes web punch and timesheet methods. These can be relevant when employees work at computers or when a supervisor or employee enters and reviews hours through a timesheet workflow. Check which method is included in your offering and how approval works in your configured account.

A shared-device time clock with Paychex Flex Time Kiosk

Kiosk use requires a subscription to Paychex Flex Time or Time Essentials. Paychex also publishes minimum iOS and Android requirements, which can change; check the current app requirements before choosing a tablet. A shared tablet is a hardware option, not a Paychex-certified model recommendation: confirm operating-system support, connectivity, kiosk configuration, and subscription eligibility first.

Badge-based proximity clocks
Paychex also describes proximity clocks, where employees punch using badges. This approach may fit a site that wants a dedicated clock and badge-based identification. Compare it with a kiosk or mobile punch based on the worksite, the device setup, and the identity method you want. Paychex outlines these options on its employee time clocks page.
How to choose the right setup
- Match the method to the workplace. For remote or field staff, consider mobile punches; for a shared worksite, consider a kiosk; for a dedicated badge station, consider a proximity clock. Web punches and timesheets may better suit desk-based work or an entry-and-review workflow.
- List the time-management features you need. Decide whether employees and managers need scheduling, job or labor allocation, time-off tracking, overtime alerts, timecard corrections, or approval workflows. Paychex lists these capabilities, but availability depends on the offering and account configuration.
- Confirm payroll data flow. Ask Paychex how approved time reaches your payroll workflow, which fields transfer, and whether any manual steps remain. Paychex says its Flex time and attendance data flows into payroll with minimal manual exports, duplicate entry, or third-party syncing; that is a vendor claim, not independent performance testing.
- Check device, plan, and total cost together. For a kiosk, verify operating-system requirements and the required subscription before purchasing hardware. Paychex’s public product pages direct businesses to request pricing or a tailored plan, so they do not establish a universal price. Include any service plan and hardware in your cost comparison.
Can a third-party time tracker integrate with Paychex?
Paychex’s software integrations directory lists several products in its Time & Attendance grouping, including Connecteam, SwyftOps, When I Work, Mindbody, and 7shifts. A directory listing identifies an integration lead; it does not establish that every feature, data field, or payroll workflow is supported for every customer.
