“Time Tracker for ADP” is not a single app that works the same way for every company. ADP offers several ways for employees to record time, including web timesheets, the ADP Mobile app, a shared-tablet kiosk, and dedicated ADP hardware. Which of these you can use depends on your employer’s ADP service and configuration, and the time data can flow into supported ADP payroll setups.
What ADP time tracking covers
ADP’s time and attendance offerings let employees record hours through web timesheets, smart time clocks, a shared-tablet kiosk app, or mobile devices. ADP describes calculating totals according to the employer’s pay policies, including overtime, and sending that time data to payroll. Breaks, paid time off, holidays, and other time types can also be collected in the same system. (ADP, Employee Time Clock Software & Attendance Systems; ADP, Time & attendance solutions for businesses)
The wider workforce-management suite adds scheduling, absence management, analytics, and compliance support. ADP states that these tools can track hours to jobs, projects, work orders, and cost centers, and manage schedules and paid time off. Those are ADP’s stated capabilities, not a guarantee of what your employer’s account will include.
Does ADP offer a time clock?
Yes, but “time clock” can mean several different things. ADP’s employee time-tracking FAQ asks this question directly, and the answer depends on the hardware and app your employer chooses. The table below lays out the main paths.

Clocking methods compared
| Method | What it uses | Key condition | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Employee’s own phone or tablet (ADP Mobile) | ADP Mobile app on the employee’s device | ADP says clocking and timesheet features vary by employer, and eligibility depends on the ADP service | Whether clock-in and timesheet controls appear in your ADP Mobile login |
| Web timesheets | A browser on any supported computer | Listed by ADP as a collection path; applicability depends on the solution in use | Whether your employer has enabled web entry |
| ADP Time Kiosk (shared tablet) | An iPad or Android tablet running the ADP Time Kiosk app | ADP’s time clock page says the app works with iPad and Android tablets | That your specific tablet model and ADP product are supported before purchase |

How field workers record time
ADP’s FAQ also asks, “How do you track employee time in the field?” For staff who are not at a fixed worksite, the practical options are the ADP Mobile app on a personal or company phone and web timesheets. Whether location-based controls are available depends on the employer’s configuration. ADP’s mobile pages describe the app as a way to access HR and payroll tools, and clocking appears only where the employer has enabled it.
Clocking actions and identity checks
According to ADP, supported clocking actions can include:
- Clocking in and out
- Recording a meal break
- Transferring time between departments, locations, or jobs
Some ADP materials describe biometric authentication, such as facial recognition or finger scanning, as an option. Treat these as features your employer may switch on, not defaults. ADP’s time-tracking page links biometric identification to buddy punching, which is discussed in the figures section below.

How time reaches payroll
ADP presents the time-to-payroll link as a way to cut duplicate manual entry. Its time software calculates totals from the employer’s payroll rules, including overtime. That describes the product’s function. It does not, on its own, establish that your payroll is legally compliant or error-free. Those depend on how your employer configures pay rules and on the payroll service you use.
Choosing a setup
Compare options on four axes before deciding:
- Clocking method: web, personal mobile, shared kiosk, or dedicated clock.
- Where people work: a fixed worksite, or in the field.
- Control needs: biometric login or location restrictions, where your account supports them.
- Fit with your ADP service: whether your specific ADP product and payroll setup support the method you want.
If you are buying a tablet for the ADP Time Kiosk app, check the tablet model and your ADP product with your ADP representative or administrator first. ADP’s pages name iPad and Android tablets in general, not specific models.
Third-party connectors on ADP Marketplace
ADP Marketplace lists third-party tools that extend ADP. Two examples are a WorkEasy listing that describes time tracking and connectors for ADP Workforce Now, ADP TotalSource, and RUN Powered by ADP (WorkEasy features listing), and a TimeClock Plus connector listed for existing TimeClock Plus and ADP Workforce Now customers that describes two-way syncing (TimeClock Plus connector listing). These listings are examples, not endorsements, and they do not show compatibility with every ADP plan. Confirm versions, implementation steps, and current vendor support before buying.

Because the study is from 2023 and ADP is the publisher, check whether ADP has published a newer edition before using these numbers in a business case.
Use the figures to frame a question for your own team, such as how much manager time goes to approving timesheets, rather than as a forecast of savings.
Next steps
- Ask your employer or ADP administrator which clocking methods are enabled on your account.
- If you use the ADP Mobile app, sign in and check whether clock-in or timesheet controls appear; if they do not, ask your employer whether the feature is turned off or your eligibility differs.
- Before buying any tablet or clock, confirm the model and the ADP product it must work with in writing.
- If you need a third-party connector, request the vendor’s current support and version details for your ADP service.
Final details on access and device support should come from your employer’s ADP administrator, because availability is set per account.
