Yes. A time clock kiosk app lets employees clock in and out on a shared tablet or computer while recording each punch under the employee’s own identity. The app may also support breaks, timesheets, scheduling, or payroll workflows, depending on the provider and subscription. The shared device is the station; employees still need an individual way to identify themselves.
How a time clock kiosk app works
An employer sets up a tablet or computer in a place employees can reach, such as an entryway or job site. Workers use the app or browser on that device to record a start, break, or finish punch. The software associates each punch with an individual employee using a PIN, personal login, photo, or another supported method.
After a punch is recorded, the system may place the hours in digital timesheets for review, reporting, or payroll preparation. Which steps are automated—and whether a payroll export or direct integration is available—depends on the product and plan.

What to compare before choosing one
Shared-device support
Check whether the kiosk runs on an iPad, Android tablet, shared computer, or browser, and confirm that the exact device and operating system are supported. Some products distinguish a dedicated kiosk app from a general time-clock app used in kiosk mode.

Employee identification
Find out how employees select or verify their identity: options in vendor documentation include individual accounts or logins, PINs, selfie photos, and biometric features. These methods are not interchangeable, and their availability varies by product. A PIN or photo should not be treated as a guarantee against another person punching for an employee.
Breaks, timesheets, and payroll
Confirm whether the system records break punches, lets a manager review and correct timesheets, and supports the payroll workflow you use. Some products provide reports for export; others describe timesheets for payroll preparation or transfer time data into their own payroll systems. Check the required subscription or license for each capability.

Internet and offline behavior
Do not assume punches will be saved offline and synced later. Offline support can differ between a vendor’s current app and a discontinued legacy app. For example, Deputy’s help center says offline mode is available in a discontinued legacy iPad kiosk, but not in the unified Time Clock app experience it describes. TimeClick says its mobile punches need an internet connection to sync. Check the current app version and test the station’s connection before relying on it.
Location controls and privacy
Ask when location is checked, which device supplies it, and whether collection continues after a punch. A geofence may restrict where employees can clock in without continuously tracking movement. Sling by Toast says its geofence checks location at clock-in or clock-out and does not track employee movement. Do not assume every kiosk uses GPS or biometric data; capabilities and collection practices are product-specific.

Setting up a shared clock-in station
- Choose the location and device. Place a supported tablet or computer where employees can use it at the start and end of work. A mounted tablet may suit an entryway or job site, but a specific mount is not required by every system.
- Confirm the app, plan, and connection. Verify device compatibility, the subscription or license needed for kiosk mode, and whether the current app supports offline punches. Make sure the station has reliable internet if the system requires it to sync.
- Register the device and employees. Follow the provider’s kiosk setup process, then configure each worker’s account or identity method, such as an individual PIN or login.
- Test a complete shift flow. Try a start punch, break punch if applicable, and finish punch. Check that each entry appears under the correct employee in the timesheet and that managers can review the records.
- Verify the payroll handoff. Confirm how approved hours leave the timekeeping system—through an export, a documented integration, or another workflow—and whether the needed capability is included in your plan.
Privacy and recordkeeping considerations
PINs, photographs, biometrics, and location checks involve different kinds of employee data. The vendor feature descriptions do not establish the legal requirements for collecting or retaining that data in every jurisdiction. Before enabling photos, biometric features, or location restrictions, check the rules that apply where your employees work and review the provider’s current privacy and retention terms.
