No—TikTok says it does not have an official “Screentime to Cash” program that pays people just to watch videos or scroll. A pop-up claiming, “Congratulations! You have been selected for our Screentime To Cash program,” may look like a TikTok notification, but Mashable reported that these promotions came from third parties and directed users to separate reward apps.
What is the “Screentime to Cash” offer?
People have reported seeing a message that reads, “Congratulations! You have been selected for our Screentime To Cash program.” Its notification-like presentation can make the offer seem official. But TikTok told Mashable that it does not pay users simply to watch videos or scroll through the app. The company also said it had removed content and accounts for violating its policies against deceptive practices and misleading content. Mashable’s September 29, 2026 report describes the promotions as third-party ads, not a TikTok viewer-payment program.

An ad appearing inside TikTok does not mean TikTok endorses the offer or the app it promotes. The report named Playful Rewards and QuickRewardz as destinations users said they encountered. A Playful Rewards spokesperson said the advertisements were not run directly by Playful Rewards and could have come from a third-party ad source. That qualification does not make either app a TikTok partner.

How it differs from TikTok Creator Rewards
TikTok does offer a monetization program, but it is for eligible creators—not viewers being paid for passive screen time. Creator Rewards is based on qualifying original videos and valid views. TikTok’s documentation specifies, among other conditions, that qualifying videos must be at least one minute long; account eligibility and regional availability also apply. What to do if you see the pop-up
- Do not treat TikTok’s placement of an ad as proof that the offer is endorsed by TikTok.
- Before signing up with a destination app, check who operates it and read its current privacy terms. Be cautious about sharing personal information.
- Keep the claim in perspective: the reported association of an app with a misleading promotion does not establish that every task or payout from that app is fraudulent. Mashable reported user complaints about payout denials, but those accounts do not prove what will happen to every user or under every set of terms.
Mashable also notes that reward apps may share data with third parties and cites a 2023 FTC and DOJ case concerning lead-generation practices. That case is not evidence that a particular app misused your data. Read the report’s privacy discussion and review the destination service’s own terms before deciding whether to provide information.
