Police say a woman’s husband and his female friend were abducted from a lodge in Thrissur on September 22, 2026, by a group posing as police officers. The woman was allegedly sexually assaulted after the pair were taken to Tamil Nadu and separated. News reports published October 1–2 said five people had been arrested and a sixth suspect was believed to be a juvenile and remained unapprehended at that time. These are allegations reported from police accounts, not findings of guilt.
What police say happened
According to accounts attributed to police in Hindustan Times, Onmanorama and The New Indian Express, a man from Tamil Nadu and a woman from Nilambur, in Kerala’s Malappuram district, checked into a lodge near Thrissur’s state transport bus stand on September 22, 2026.
Police accounts say the man’s wife, identified in reports as Devi, opposed the relationship and learned where the pair were staying. A group allegedly arrived in two cars, claimed to be police officers, entered the room, assaulted the pair and abducted them. One account says the group claimed the pair were suspected in a drug case. Thrissur City Police Commissioner Nakul Rajendra Deshmukh told Hindustan Times that “a gang of six men, posing as police officers, barged into the room at the lodge and kidnapped them.” That is the commissioner’s account as quoted by the outlet, not a court finding.

The couple were reportedly taken to Tamil Nadu and separated. Police accounts say the man was assaulted and left near a hospital in Tiruppur. The woman was taken separately and allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects. Onmanorama and The New Indian Express report that she was taken to a hospital and escaped when the accused were distracted; other contemporaneous coverage says she later informed police. The reports do not establish a court finding about these allegations.

Arrests and reported investigation
Reports published October 1–2 said five people, including Devi, had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. They identify the other arrested suspects as Thomas, Raghupathi or Raghupathi Raja, Shankar, and Balraj or Palraj; spellings vary between reports. A sixth suspect, described as believed to be a juvenile, was reported as not yet arrested at that time. These are dated updates, and the available reports do not establish whether that person was later apprehended.
Reports say Nilambur police began investigating after the woman reported the incident, and that Thrissur City Police later handled the case. A special team reportedly made arrests near Kochi airport and in Tiruppur, Coimbatore and Palani. The October 1–2 reports said the investigation was continuing. They do not provide an FIR or case number, full statutory charges, subsequent hearing dates or a later court finding.
