Delhi Police arrested three alleged operatives in an extortion investigation involving threats to two business families, according to a Press Trust of India report carried by Hindustan Times on October 2, 2026. Police linked the alleged operation to the Goldy Brar gang and callers they said were based in Dubai. The report describes a ₹1 crore demand from Delhi businessman Praveen Jain and says police foiled an alleged plan to fire at his Roop Nagar home.
Who was arrested, and when?
The report gives a sequence of arrests and apprehensions rather than one arrest event. It names Aarif alias Pistol, Mubarik alias Gullu and Nawab Ali alias Sonij, and describes their alleged roles as police claims, not court findings.
- Aarif alias Pistol, 32: Police reportedly said he was an operational link between callers in Dubai and associates in India. They alleged he offered money to a Dubai-based associate called Aarish to make an extortion call and instructed him to speak in Haryanvi. Aarif was reportedly arrested in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad, on September 24, with Gujarat Police assistance.
- Mubarik alias Gullu: Police reportedly identified him as a key conspirator who helped plan the operation and arranged accommodation in Kirari for shooters. He was reportedly arrested in Delhi on September 25.
- Nawab Ali alias Sonij: Described in the report as a suspected shooter, he was reportedly apprehended on October 1 from a moving train near Rewari, with Railway Protection Force assistance.
The headline’s reference to three arrested should not obscure the dated sequence: the report separately describes Sonij’s October 1 apprehension, after the September arrests of Aarif and Mubarik. Police were reportedly pursuing other suspects, including suspected shooters, at the time of publication.
What happened to Praveen Jain and his family?
Police reportedly said Jain received three missed calls at about 8:15 p.m. on September 16, 2026. At about 9:27 p.m., his son Ayush received a call from a UAE-based mobile number. The caller allegedly claimed to be an associate of Goldy Brar, threatened the family and demanded ₹1 crore. A case was registered at Roop Nagar police station on September 17, according to the PTI report.

The report says investigators suspected that four shooters had been engaged—two from Panipat and two from Khalapar in Muzaffarnagar. Police alleged that the plan was to fire multiple rounds at Jain’s Roop Nagar residence and then renew the demand. They said preventive arrangements at the home foiled the attack before it was carried out.
Was another businessman’s family targeted?
Yes. The report describes a second alleged extortion threat involving a construction businessman’s family in Sector 1, Rohini. Its details differ from the Jain case:
