Three graded English Southern Islands cards reportedly brought a combined $1.176 million at auction, according to Polygon’s report of October 7, 2026. The top lot was a PSA 10 Mew #1 at $840,000. A PSA 10 Togepi #4 and a PSA 10 Marill #11 each reportedly sold for $168,000. The sum is what makes the headline’s “nearly $1.2 million” accurate, but the figures come from secondary reporting, and the underlying auction records have not been independently confirmed for this article.
What the three cards are
All three come from the English Southern Islands Collection, an 18-card Pokémon Trading Card Game set released on July 31, 2001, according to Serebii. The set’s own release period and card list are the anchor for identifying these cards, and Mew, Togepi, and Marill all appear in it.
The collection was a Wizards of the Coast retail product rather than a promotional release in the usual sense. A reference history of the set, citing an archived Wizards of the Coast FAQ, describes it as 18 cards, six postcards, protective sleeves, and three randomized booster packs, with a suggested retail price of $19.99. The word “promo” in the headline is therefore loose: these are regular numbered cards from a collection set, which matters when you check a listing against the set list.

The reported sales
Polygon’s figures are the basis for every price in this article. The table below lists each card, its grade, the October result Polygon reported, and the earlier sale that Men’s Journal cited for comparison.
#1 Best Overall
| Card | Grade | Reported October 2026 result (Polygon) | Earlier sale cited (Men’s Journal) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Southern Islands Holo Mew #1 | PSA 10 | $840,000 | $85,000, July 2026 |
| Southern Islands Holo Togepi #4 | PSA 10 | $168,000 | $9,300, June 2025 |
| Southern Islands Holo Marill #11 | PSA 10 | $168,000 | Not stated |
| Combined | All PSA 10 | $1,176,000 | Not applicable |
The combined total is arithmetic from the three reported prices, not a separate auction-house total. The earlier sales are secondary comparisons and show two data points per card at most; they do not establish a price trend.
How to read the Mew figure
Polygon says there are 20 PSA 10 copies of the Mew #1 worldwide. That count is Polygon’s claim. PSA’s public population data was not checked for this article, so treat 20 as reported rather than confirmed. Scarcity of a top-graded copy is one plausible reason a single lot can climb far above earlier sales, but a population count alone does not show what a buyer paid or why.

- You will receive, at random, a Pokémon TCG: First Partner Illustration Collection—Series that will contain 3 of 9 possible Promo Cards featuring beloved first partner Pokémon from the Johto, Unova, or Galar region.
- You will get 1 Pokémon TCG booster pack containing 3 of 9 promo cards
- This also comes with 2 Pokémon TCG booster packs and a sticker sheet.
Men’s Journal also reported skepticism about how quickly prices for these cards moved. That skepticism is a reason to wait for primary records before treating the results as market prices.

- Transaction finality. The auction lot pages and completed-sale records behind the Polygon figures were not located for this article, so the reported sales are not independently verified.
- Typical value. Three extraordinary results do not describe what a PSA 10 Southern Islands card usually sells for.
- Cause. The set’s artwork was designed so that cards connect into larger island scenes. That is useful collector context, but nothing in the reporting ties that design to the prices.
- Future prices. Earlier sales and the October results do not predict what these cards will fetch next.
If you want to check a card you own or are considering
- Confirm the set name is English Southern Islands and the card number matches the list: Mew #1, Togepi #4, or Marill #11.
- Look up the grading certificate number on the PSA site to confirm the grade and card identity before relying on any listing.
- Compare recent completed sales for the same card and grade, and note the sale date, not just the asking price.
- Search for collector listings by card name and number, then compare grade, language, condition, and seller, since these vary widely from one listing to the next.
The headline figures are real reported numbers, but they describe three specific graded lots sold under specific conditions. They are a record of one auction result, not a benchmark for the set.
