A TikTok creator says an Ancestry DNA match led her family to a woman who may have been her grandmother’s daughter, born before the grandmother’s marriage and placed for adoption. The Daily Dot reported Brielle’s account on September 30, 2026, but said it could not independently verify the family history.
What Brielle says her family discovered
In a “get ready with me” TikTok, Brielle (@briellehardman) recounted that her grandfather was asked on his deathbed whether he had hidden anything. According to her, he answered that he had not, “but I don’t know about your mother.” The family apparently did not follow up on the remark at the time.
Years later, Brielle says, an aunt took an Ancestry DNA test and received a match she thought might be a sister to her and Brielle’s mother. The relatives initially considered whether the grandfather had fathered another child. Brielle says they eventually concluded that the woman was the grandmother’s child from before marriage.

The woman reportedly learned she had been adopted at age 45. The Daily Dot’s account is based solely on Brielle’s TikTok retelling; it said it could not independently verify the pregnancy, adoption, ages, or family’s conclusion. The report does not establish what the grandfather knew, why the grandmother kept the matter private, or how the woman reacted.

What the DNA match can—and cannot—show
Ancestry says its matching compares users’ DNA with others in its database and estimates how closely they may be related. A match can point relatives toward a possible connection, but it is not independent proof of a particular identity or of the full family story Brielle described.
Ancestry says match lists are based on DNA, not family-tree information. Users may then investigate a match with shared matches, family trees, and messages. Some shared-match and tree-analysis features require an Ancestry family-history membership, according to the company’s current help documentation; available features and membership terms can change.

What the video and report say about the story’s reach
The Daily Dot reported that Brielle’s video had more than 1.2 million views and 370 comments when its story was published on September 30, 2026. Those are figures reported at publication, not a current count. The outlet also reproduced the TikTok caption: “Grwm|| The family secret my grandma took to her grave”.

Ancestry describes DNA matching as opt-in. Its privacy help page says users can choose whether they appear in DNA matches, control what matches see, assign different access levels to collaborators, and delete their DNA results. These are the company’s descriptions of its controls, not a guarantee of privacy or security.

Anyone considering a consumer DNA test should weigh the possibility of unexpected family connections against their comfort with sharing genetic information and review the provider’s current settings and terms. Ancestry describes its kit as providing an origins report and connections to genetic relatives; buying a test does not guarantee a close match or establish a specific relationship by itself.
