THG Fulfil has expanded its global distribution authorisation for AutoStore systems to include customer-funded capital expenditure (CapEx), alongside its existing Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) offer. THG says brands and retailers can choose CapEx, RaaS, or a hybrid arrangement while using the same distribution and integration partner. The announcement does not disclose prices, contract terms, or expected returns.
What changed in THG Fulfil’s AutoStore agreement?
Announced on September 30, 2026, the change adds CapEx ownership to THG Fulfil’s existing RaaS model. Under CapEx, the customer funds and owns the automation assets; under RaaS, the system is provided through a service model rather than requiring the same upfront asset purchase. THG says customers may also combine the two approaches.
The authorisation is not identical across the models. THG says its CapEx authorisation covers the entire AutoStore product range, while RaaS covers a selected range: R5 Pro and R5 Pro+ robots, CarouselPort, ConveyorPort, and VersaPort. What operating capabilities and results does THG report?
THG Fulfil says it operates 796 AutoStore robots across its own network and has connected the system to its proprietary warehouse control system. The company reports more than 11,000 bins delivered to picking stations per hour and a 78% reduction in average pick wait time. THG Ingenuity’s AutoStore integration page gives more specific figures: 11,790 bins delivered to picking stations per hour, average pick wait time of 4.52 seconds rather than 21 seconds, and a 78% reduction in wait time. Those figures are also company marketing claims and should be read as figures reported on that page, rather than as a separate audit or a universal result for other facilities. For a prospective customer, the relevant operational question is not only who pays for the equipment. The facility also needs an appropriate layout, integration with warehouse systems, and a plan for operating the configured installation. THG describes its own warehouse-control integration, but the announcement does not specify the technical scope, customer responsibilities, or implementation requirements for a particular site. These should be confirmed during project design.

AutoStore’s June 30, 2026 announcement described a three-month build programme and said the first-order go-live was targeted for September 2026. What should buyers clarify before selecting a model?
- Ownership and accounting: Confirm which party owns each component, how the arrangement is treated in the buyer’s accounts, and what happens to the equipment at the end of the agreement.
- Total commercial terms: Request the full cost structure, contract duration, service scope, and any charges tied to implementation, changes, or ongoing operation. Those terms are not disclosed in THG’s announcement.
- Equipment and configuration: Map the required robots, ports, storage capacity, and software integration against the range included in the specific CapEx or RaaS proposal.
- Performance assumptions: Ask how throughput and pick-wait metrics are defined and measured, and what site-specific conditions are needed to achieve the proposed targets. THG’s published figures should not be assumed to predict another facility’s outcome.
- Implementation responsibility: Establish who is responsible for facility readiness, integration, commissioning, training, and ongoing support.
