Retro Games Ltd.’s THEA1200 is a full-size recreation of the Amiga 1200, with a working keyboard, HDMI output, USB connectivity and 25 preloaded games. Its currently announced launch date is December 4, 2026. The original June 16, 2026 date has been superseded. The product is an emulation-based recreation, not a newly manufactured original Commodore Amiga 1200.
What THEA1200 is—and what it is not
Retro Games Ltd. describes THEA1200 as a full-size reimagining of the Amiga 1200. The system emulates the A1200’s AGA configuration and earlier Amiga 500 OCS and ECS configurations, according to the official product page. It includes a Workbench desktop and connects to a modern display over HDMI.

That distinction matters: this is a contemporary retro-gaming product designed to recreate the A1200 experience, not an original Commodore computer or a newly manufactured A1200 motherboard. The advertised features and compatibility are manufacturer claims; no independent hands-on test is represented here.
Launch date and preorder timeline
Retro Games Ltd.’s announcement on October 23, 2025 said preorders would open November 10, 2025, and gave June 16, 2026 as the launch date. The company’s current announcement and product page list December 4, 2026 instead.
#1 Best Overall
- Full size replica of the Amiga 1200
- Full size working keyboard.
- High Definition multi region output at 50 or 60Hz.
- 25 fantastic built in games presented on an easy-to-use carousel, including: Settlers II, Defender of the Crown I & II, the Turrican trilogy, Beneath a Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, and Ruff ‘n’ Tumble.
- Four USB ports to support gamepads, mouse, joysticks, and USB sticks.
In May 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported that Retro Games Ltd. attributed the delay to global chip shortages and higher plastic production costs, and said it wanted additional time to refine the system software. Heise likewise reported that the operating system was functional but still needed refinement. These are explanations attributed to the company in reporting, not independently established findings about the causes of the delay: Tom’s Hardware, May 9, 2026; heise online, May 6, 2026.

Features and included games
The manufacturer lists a working full-size keyboard, HDMI video output, USB connectivity, Workbench, four save slots per game and the ability to load games the owner has from USB. Retro Games Ltd. says USB loading supports WHDLoad. Those are stated product features, not independently verified results.

Because the announced release is still ahead, confirm the current launch and delivery date with the retailer, along with preorder status and any regional conditions. If you plan to use USB loading, check the maker’s current guidance for game files and WHDLoad support. Also account for the missing AC adapter and confirm compatible power specifications rather than assuming any USB-C adapter will work.
