To play Gartic Phone with friends, open the game in a browser or use its mobile app, create or join a room, and share the invitation. Players write prompts, draw what they receive, and describe the next drawing; at the end, the group reviews how the original idea changed. A separate voice call is optional, but it lets everyone hear the reactions as the chain unravels.
How do you play Gartic Phone with friends?
Gartic Phone calls itself “THE TELEPHONE GAME.” Its official instructions boil the round down to a chain: write a quirky sentence, draw the sentence passed to you, describe a drawing, and watch the results together. As with the spoken telephone game, each handoff can change the original idea. Drawing skill is not the point: an awkward sketch can make the next guess more surprising, but no particular level of drawing ability guarantees a funnier round.
- Get everyone into the same room. Open Gartic Phone and create a room or join one using the invitation shared by the host.
- Write a sentence. Start with a short, playful prompt that can be pictured. Clear enough to draw is useful; strange enough to invite interpretation is even better.
- Draw the sentence you receive. Work from the prompt passed to you, rather than trying to reproduce the original idea from memory.
- Describe the next drawing. Turn the image you see into a sentence. That description becomes someone else’s drawing prompt.
- Review the chain together. When the round ends, follow the prompts and pictures to see where the idea shifted.
The official instructions recommend arranging a voice call separately: “Invite your friends to a voice call (e.g.: Discord, Zoom)” (Gartic Phone, How to Play). The call gives the group a place to react while playing; it is separate from the sentence-and-drawing loop.

For a browser session, start at the official website and use its room flow to create or enter a game. The Google Play listing says players can create a room and invite friends using a link or QR code. Apple’s iPhone listing also describes rooms and playing with friends. The exact invitation options can depend on the version you use, so follow the controls shown in your room rather than assuming every platform presents the same steps.

- NEW LOOK, SAME CLASSIC FUN: Fresh design and updated prompts for even more unpredictable hilarity.

- GREAT FOR GROUPS: Perfect for parties, family nights, and game sessions with 4–12 players ages 10+.
- EASY TO LEARN, HARD TO STOP: The worse your drawing, the funnier the game—no artistic skill required!
For a remote group, one person can host and send the available invitation through the group chat where everyone is coordinating. If you want to hear one another, start a separate voice call before the first prompt; players can keep the game open while using that call. Gartic Phone’s official site names Discord and Zoom as examples, not as requirements.
Can you play Gartic Phone on your phone?
Yes. The official listings include a Gartic Phone app for iPhone and identify Android and Windows availability through Google Play. The browser game is also available from the official website, so a group can choose between opening the site and installing an app. The official materials do not provide a verified feature-by-feature comparison across browser, Android, Windows, and iPhone, so do not assume that every mode or control is identical in each version.

Choose based on what makes the round easiest for your group: which devices people already have, whether they prefer a browser or an installed app, how comfortable drawing feels on each screen, and whether they want a separate voice call. No special physical accessory is required by the official sources. The Google Play listing describes drawing tools in the app; a stylus is optional, not a stated requirement.
Which Gartic Phone modes can you play?
The official lobby lists a range of presets. The mode names and descriptions below reflect the lobby’s current listing, which may change; the lobby also showed Gartictober during this check, a seasonal option rather than a mode to count on year-round.

- CAN YOU DOODLE 10 MASTERPIECES IN A MINUTE? Six Second Scribbles challenges you to draw 10 things from a given category in 60 seconds. It’s as tricky as it sounds and leads to some brilliant, hilarious and often questionable art!
- 1000+ ITEMS TO DRAW ACROSS 100+ CATEGORIES! We’ve crammed a lot of content into a small box with categories ranging from nice and easy (food, animals, body parts) to almost impossible (tourist attractions, animated films, cheeses!)
- DRAW, DECIPHER, SCORE! All players draw their items at the same time, and when the minute is up you pass your scribbles to another player. They have to figure out what you’ve drawn and if they guess correctly, you both score points!
- THE ART OF SIMPLICITY! Six Second Scribbles is all about finding the perfect balance between quality and quantity. It’s amazing how fast a minute vanishes and how much can be conveyed with a rapid scrawl of a pencil… or how little!
- TEENY TINY PAPER! Six Second Scribbles comes in a small box, the size of four packs of cards, which contains small pencils and paper too. We love making small games. They are just as good for taking on the go as playing at home, and they use less of the world's natural resources!

For the familiar telephone-style exchange, Normal is the explicitly described option. Try another preset when the group wants a different structure; the lobby’s labels alone do not establish the exact rules for every mode. The lobby view showed 14 slots, but one view does not establish a universal player limit across platforms or room settings.

Google Play describes an in-app drawing toolset that includes a pencil, eraser, shapes, fill bucket, eyedropper, notes, adjustable color and stroke settings, zoom, pan, undo, and redo.
