The “Geralt upgrade” is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, a new edition of the game—not a separate character upgrade. CD PROJEKT RED released it on September 29, 2026. Existing owners on specified platforms are eligible for a free upgrade, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One keep the previous-generation game rather than receiving Remastered.
What is The Witcher 3 Remastered?
CD PROJEKT RED announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on August 25, 2026, describing it as an edition with visual and gameplay improvements. The publisher said it was available on September 29. Read the announcement or see the release notice.
The official description includes improved environment, NPC, and monster textures; foliage enhancements; and reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing. Gameplay additions include revamped combat animations and finishers, an adaptive camera, and an overhauled skill tree. CD PROJEKT RED also lists cross-platform mod support, transmogrification, immersive meditation, and an expanded photo mode. These are publisher-described features; the announcements do not establish independent performance measurements or specific frame-rate and resolution figures.
Is the Remastered upgrade free if you already own the game?
CD PROJEKT RED describes a free Remastered upgrade for existing owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The announcement separately listed Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2 as platforms where the game was available for pre-purchase, and said Nintendo Switch owners could claim Remastered on Switch 2 when it releases. If you are a new player, the free-upgrade offer for existing owners does not mean the game itself is free to buy. The official announcement identified pre-purchase availability on Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2; availability can depend on platform and region.
Are Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine included?
Yes. The announcement says current base-game owners gain Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine for free, and that both expansions are included in Remastered. The September 29 release notice names GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 for the expansions. CD PROJEKT RED’s official game FAQ says base-game owners can update to install them and also notes free downloads on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Does Remastered come to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. The official FAQ says the game remains unchanged on previous-generation consoles. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners do not receive the Remastered edition; the change for those systems is that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are available free to base-game owners. The Remastered upgrade is the distinct edition for supported newer platforms.
