In an October 8, 2026, interview with RPG Site, CD Projekt Red Senior Publishing Producer Oleg Shatulo described The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered as a broader update than a visual refresh. The team aims to modernize gameplay and technology while preserving the original’s identity. For players, the clearest practical points are that saves can move forward into Remastered but not back to older versions, and an original Switch save must be transferred through CD PROJEKT RED Account cross-progression—not detected automatically. The interview did not confirm a future Switch 2 60fps mode or additional PS5 Pro ray tracing.
Why CD Projekt Red is remastering The Witcher 3
Shatulo said the project took shape as the team considered how to advance its technology alongside development of the new expansion Songs of the Past. The goal was to address friction identified through years of player feedback without changing the game so much that it lost its original spirit.

The areas he cited include combat, character progression, controls, user interface, accessibility, and technical presentation. That makes the stated ambition wider than visual polish, though the interview is a producer’s account of the goals—not an independent assessment of how successfully each change works.

The Switch 2 effort began as a possible straightforward upgrade after the team brought Cyberpunk 2077 to the console. Shatulo said that work made a Witcher port feel like a natural next step, while the newer hardware offered more room to improve visuals and performance over the original Switch. The Switch 2 version ultimately became part of the wider Remastered effort across current-generation platforms rather than remaining a separate upgrade project.

DLSS was tuned for The Witcher 3
Shatulo described the team’s Cyberpunk 2077 work as a strong foundation for using DLSS on Switch 2, but not a solution that could simply be copied over. The Witcher 3 has a different rendering pipeline, content, and performance profile, so the team tuned the implementation to balance image quality and performance. The interview provides no resolution, frame-rate, or image-quality measurements; it therefore does not establish what players will see in a benchmark.
Is 60fps on Switch 2 planned?
Asked whether Switch 2 might get a 60fps mode later, Shatulo replied, “We have nothing to share here.” That is not confirmation of a mode, but it also does not establish that one has been cancelled.
Other Switch 2 controls and performance priorities
The interview says the game supports HD Rumble 2, mouse controls, gyro aiming, and motion controls on Switch 2. Shatulo also said parity with the DX12 version of the Next-Gen release was a priority for handheld play, including on Steam Deck, and that visual improvements were not intended to come at the expense of lower-powered PC hardware. Those are development priorities, not reported test results.

How cross-saves and Switch transfers work
Moving a save into Remastered
According to Shatulo, a save from an existing version can move forward into Remastered. The reverse is not supported: a Remastered save cannot be taken back to an older version. He pointed to changes such as a revamped skill tree as one reason the versions are difficult to make compatible in both directions. Supported Remastered platforms can share compatible saves through cross-progression.
Transferring from the original Switch to Switch 2
The transfer is not automatic just because an original Switch save is present on the console. Players must use CD PROJEKT RED Account cross-progression to upload the older Switch save, then continue with it in Remastered on Switch 2.
Do achievements or trophies unlock when a save is imported?
No. Shatulo said achievements and trophies are tracked separately by each platform, so importing a save through cross-progression does not automatically unlock them on the destination platform. By contrast, same-platform upgrades carry saves and achievement or trophy progress forward, according to his account; Switch 2 is an exception to the update-delivery approach.

PC storefronts, Xbox Play Anywhere, and platform features
The Microsoft Store Play Anywhere release is a standalone PC version, separate from the Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net versions. Shatulo said it will have feature parity with the other PC versions and support moving between Xbox and PC through Play Anywhere.
The interview also describes platform-specific input features: DualSense adaptive triggers and haptic feedback carry forward, while Switch 2 supports HD Rumble 2, mouse controls, gyro aiming, and motion controls. CD Projekt Red developed the Switch 2 and PS5 Pro versions without direct participation from Nintendo or Sony developers, though both platform holders provided platform-specific guidance and support.

Asked about additional PS5 Pro ray-tracing features, Shatulo said there was nothing to share. The same response applied to questions about a Switch 2 60fps mode, new music, a Witcher 2 remaster, a physical release, and a new artbook. These answers provide no confirmation, but they should not be read as announcements that any of those possibilities have been cancelled.

Shatulo said Remastered brings no new region-specific content changes beyond requirements already present for earlier versions under applicable local rules. For newcomers, he recommended Remastered as a version that preserves what players valued while adding visual, gameplay, and quality-of-life changes. That is the producer’s recommendation, not an independent comparison of the editions.
