The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on September 29, 2026, and quickly brought a large audience back to the game. SteamDB recorded a new Steam concurrency peak of 137,724 on October 4, while analytics firm Alinea Analytics estimated about 2.4 million daily active users and 130,000 copies sold across Steam, PlayStation and Xbox on the day after launch. Those figures measure different things: simultaneous Steam players, estimated daily users across three platforms, and estimated one-day sales.
What the new Steam record measures
SteamDB recorded 137,724 players simultaneously playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on Steam on October 4, 2026. That is the game’s all-time Steam concurrency peak as of that date—not a count of everyone who played that day, and not a total across consoles. SteamDB’s chart is the source for the peak.

The record rose after an earlier October 3 report from PC Gamer cited a peak of 123,359 concurrent players. The higher October 4 figure is the later SteamDB record. Steam’s live player count changes over time, so the peak is a dated milestone rather than a current-player figure.

Alinea Analytics estimated about 2.4 million daily active users across Steam, PlayStation and Xbox on September 30, the day after the remaster launched. The firm said that was more than ten times its estimate of the game’s average daily active users in 2026. Its platform breakdown was Steam at 48.6%, PlayStation at 40.4% and Xbox at 11.0%. The estimate did not include Nintendo Switch 2.

Daily active users are not the same measure as Steam’s concurrent-player peak. The former estimates people active over a day across three platforms; the latter counts simultaneous players on Steam at a particular moment. Alinea’s data also does not establish that every active user was a returning player.
What “sales skyrocket” means—and what it does not
Alinea Analytics estimated that about 130,000 copies were sold across Steam, PlayStation and Xbox on September 30. It described that as the game’s largest single-day sales result since its first $3.99 Steam discount in summer 2024. This is an analyst estimate for one day, not an audited publisher report or a sales total for a separately priced remaster.

The distinction matters because CD PROJEKT RED says the remaster is a free download for anyone who already owns the base game. The launch could prompt newcomers to buy the game while existing owners upgrade without purchasing another copy. The 130,000 estimate does not separate those cases.

What the remaster includes and who gets it free
CD PROJEKT RED launched The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on September 29, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher says the release includes the previously released Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. Owners of the base game can download the remaster, including both expansions, for free. CD PROJEKT RED reported that The Witcher 3 had sold more than 65 million copies and that the franchise had surpassed 90 million in its first-half 2026 announcement. Alinea Analytics later estimated on October 1 that The Witcher 3 had exceeded 66 million copies. The latter is a third-party estimate, not an updated official publisher total. Neither cumulative figure shows how many copies the remaster itself sold.
