Is The Witcher 3 remaster free if I own the game?

PC and Xbox Series X|S
For PC and Xbox, verify the exact storefront and version against CD PROJEKT RED’s upgrade announcement and support FAQ. The available information identifies platform-dependent eligibility rather than a universal rule for every edition or account, so confirm what the store offers before purchasing.
Nintendo Switch 2
Owners of the original Nintendo Switch game can claim the Switch 2 version for free, subject to the publisher’s stated platform and regional details. The support FAQ identifies a Russia/Belarus restriction for this upgrade; check the FAQ for the terms that apply to your region.
Does the remaster include Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED says both expansions—Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine—are included in the remaster, including for people who previously owned only the base game, subject to platform and regional details. If you are buying a listing, make sure it is for the remastered edition and the platform you intend to play on.

What changed in the remaster?
The publisher’s feature list describes changes beyond graphics. It includes performance and visual updates, combat and progression revisions, animation changes, and cross-platform mod support. On PC, the publisher lists path tracing; it also lists PS5 Pro support. These are publisher-described features, not independent performance test results. CD PROJEKT RED’s launch announcement
PlayStation’s PS5 page adds platform-specific details: lighting and shading rework, HDR improvements, expanded photo mode, animation and combat changes, a revamped skill tree, transmogrification, and changes to looting and quest tracking. In its August 2026 announcement, CD PROJEKT RED also described improved traversal and movement, new Witcher sign effects, changes to mount handling and monster behavior, and new finishers.
