There is no reward-based best ending in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Gamer Guides reports the same quest experience whichever outcome you choose. For the kindest practical result, cover for the fake Witcher and make him work for Lindenvale. For accountability, expose him and hand him over to the ealdorman, though that route may bring a severe punishment.
How to start Witcher Wannabe
Witcher Wannabe is a Velen secondary quest tied to Lindenvale. First complete Contract: The Merry Widow, then leave the area and let some in-game time pass before returning. The trigger is delayed: Prima Games says the quest becomes accessible five days after the contract, while Gamer Guides suggests roughly a week. Treat those as guide estimates, not a guaranteed universal timer.

When the quest is available, speak to the ealdorman near Lindenvale’s signpost. He complains about a supposed Witcher, which starts the investigation. Gamer Guides’ walkthrough and the Prima Games eGuide both describe the cemetery search east of the village.
Find the fake Witcher

Travel east from Lindenvale to the cemetery and deal with the monster encounter there. The walkthroughs differ in how they describe the enemies, so do not rely on a fixed enemy count.

Which ending should you choose?
For mercy with accountability: make him work
Covering for the impostor and assigning a year of labor is the most forgiving practical option in the reported outcomes. He avoids being handed to the elder or driven out, but still has to make amends through work.
For a harsher justice role-play: turn him over
If you think the deception should be judged by the village, expose him and take him to the ealdorman. This leaves the decision to the elder and carries the risk of the most severe punishment described in the walkthrough.

For conditional mercy or exile
Exposing him while asking the villagers to spare him earns conditional mercy: he is allowed to leave, with a threat if he comes back. Covering for him but banning him from Lindenvale instead results in exile. These choices change his reported fate, not the reported XP reward.
