Spoiler warning: This is a full-ending reference for The Witcher 3 and both of its expansions. It reveals outcomes for the main story, Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine.
The Witcher 3 does not have a single ending. Ciri’s fate is decided by a tally of her interactions with Geralt. The Northern war and the Skellige succession produce world-state outcomes in the closing slides. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine each finish with their own conclusions. Read these as separate branches rather than one “good” or “bad” ending.
Save before major choices. Quest order and prerequisites can create edge cases, and a predicted outcome does not guarantee that your save has locked it in.

Each outcome belongs to one of three layers. Keeping them apart prevents you from mixing a regional result with a personal one.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
- Ciri’s survival and future. Whether she lives, and if she does, whether she takes the Empress route or the witcher’s path.
- World-state slides. The closing political results of the Northern war and the Skellige succession.
- Expansion endings. The Hearts of Stone finale and the Blood and Wine finale, each separate from the base-game outcomes.
This guide describes what each outcome means and does not rank them.
Ciri’s survival
Ciri’s survival is tallied across key interactions. The ending checklist this guide relies on counts five moments when Geralt takes her to Emhyr. Three or more negative responses lead to her death, and fewer leave her alive. There is no on-screen meter, so the count is never shown. If Geralt skips Emhyr, the Emhyr moment drops out of the tally, and two negative responses still leave her alive.
The five counted moments
| Moment | Response that supports Ciri | Response that counts against her |
|---|---|---|
| After Kaer Morhen, “Blood on the Battlefield” | Suggest a snowball fight. | Tell her she does not have to be good at everything. The checklist labels this dismissive. |
| Emhyr audience (if Geralt takes her to Vizima) | Refuse the payment. | Accept the coin. |
| “Final Preparations” | Let Ciri meet the Lodge alone. | Insist on accompanying her. |
| “Child of the Elder Blood” | Tell her “Go for it” and let her vent in Avallac’h’s laboratory. | Tell her to calm down. |
| “Child of the Elder Blood” | Go with Ciri to Skjall’s grave. | Tell her to stay focused on the mission. |
Empress route and witcher’s path
- Empress: Geralt takes Ciri to Emhyr, and Nilfgaard wins the war. Both conditions are required.
- Witcher’s path: Ciri survives, and the Empress conditions are not both met. For example, she can be taken to Emhyr and still take the witcher’s path if Nilfgaard does not win.
- Dead: three or more negative responses in the tally.
For the witcher’s path, favor Ciri’s autonomy and confidence, which means the supportive column above. Avoid meeting both Empress conditions.

The Northern branch resolves through the assassination plot and its final confrontation. Treat these results as parallel world-state outcomes, not as extra endings for Ciri.

| Outcome | How to reach it |
|---|---|
| Radovid remains in power | Leave the Radovid plot alone, so the assassination is not completed. |
| Dijkstra takes power | After Radovid is killed, allow Dijkstra to eliminate Roche’s group and take power. |
| Nilfgaard wins | Side with Roche and his allies after the assassination. |
Skellige succession
The Skellige succession is a separate quest branch with its own ruler outcome. Ignoring the questline lets Svanrige establish a monarchy. This guide can confirm only that result in detail. Other successions depend on how far Geralt becomes involved, and they are not covered here. Treat the outcome as a regional consequence rather than an ending to Ciri’s arc.
Hearts of Stone: the finale
The Hearts of Stone finale is decided in the quest “Whatsoever a Man Soweth…”, when O’Dimm comes to claim Olgierd’s soul. Geralt can intervene to help Olgierd, or he can do nothing and let the decision timer expire.
| Choice | Result |
|---|---|
| Intervene to help Olgierd | Olgierd is saved from O’Dimm. |
| Do nothing, or let the timer expire | O’Dimm claims Olgierd’s soul, removes Geralt’s scar, and offers a wish. |
This is a self-contained expansion ending, separate from the base-game political and Ciri outcomes. CD PROJEKT RED’s 2015 expansion announcement called Hearts of Stone a “10-hour-plus adventure.” That is a publisher scope claim from 2015, not a measured playtime.

Blood and Wine: the three endings
The Blood and Wine ending depends on two things: how Geralt approaches Syanna, and how the sisters’ confrontation is handled. He can seek her through the fairytale route or go to the Unseen Elder. Several decisions earlier in the expansion feed into the finale, so no single dialogue choice settles the result. Check the consequences before the irreversible steps in the sequence.

CD PROJEKT RED’s 2015 announcement called Blood and Wine a “20-hour-plus tale.” Co-founder Marcin Iwiński said both expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games. Both statements are promotional scope language from 2015, not measured playtimes.

After Blood and Wine’s credits, the Corvo Bianco visitor depends on your main-game relationship and on Ciri’s status. This is an epilogue variation, not a fourth Blood and Wine ending.
- One committed romance with Triss or Yennefer brings that character to Corvo Bianco.
- With no partner and Ciri alive, Ciri visits.
- With no partner and Ciri dead or vanished in the tragic ending, Dandelion visits.
Which editions include the expansions
CD PROJEKT RED’s official Witcher page describes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered and the Complete Edition. The page says owners can update the game to obtain Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. It presents the Complete Edition as the current offering in digital storefronts.

How reliable these outcomes are
Most of the ending-condition detail comes from a current third-party ending checklist and a community wiki, not from an official publisher walkthrough. The Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine overviews come from a third-party guide. Available sources include no measured breakdown of how many players reach each ending, so this guide does not give percentages.
