To find a missing alchemy ingredient in The Witcher 3, check the recipe in the Alchemy panel, then match the item to its source: gather plants, loot monsters, or check herbalists and other merchants. For an early-game Arenaria supply, search the fields between White Orchard’s sawmill and Woesong Bridge. White Gull is crafted from ingredients, including Arenaria—it is not a plant to harvest.
Start with the recipe, not a general ingredient hunt
Open the Alchemy panel and select the potion, oil, or bomb you want to make. Its formula shows which ingredients you lack. Recipes use different combinations of herbs, monster parts, and minerals, so there is no single route that supplies everything. Alchemy can be done without visiting a specialist craftsman, and formulas are learned recipes rather than a requirement to collect ingredients blindly. The game’s alchemy reference describes the formula system and the role of strong alcohol in replenishing crafted mixtures.
Once you know the exact missing item, use its source type to choose where to look:

| Source | Best for | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Foraging | Plants and other landscape ingredients | Gather useful herbs as you travel; particular plants appear in particular regions and environments. |
| Monster loot | Monster-specific components and occasional mutagens | Loot defeated monsters, and check especially dangerous opponents for rare mutagens. The ingredient reference identifies monster drops and mutagens as ingredient sources; it does not establish a universal drop rate. Ingredient reference |

Where to find Arenaria in White Orchard
For the base game, a useful early Arenaria route is the fields between the sawmill and Woesong Bridge in White Orchard. Search the surrounding fields as you travel between those landmarks rather than expecting every plant to be concentrated at one exact point. Prima’s guide catalogs herbs by region and environment, which can help when you are looking for plants elsewhere. Prima’s regional guide

Arenaria is harder to find outside White Orchard during the main game and is more common in Hearts of Stone. The White Orchard route is therefore a practical base-game example, not an exhaustive location guide for every herb or expansion area.
When buying ingredients is the better option
If the recipe identifies a specific ingredient and foraging has not filled the gap, check herbalists. Tomira, near White Orchard’s sawmill, is listed as a source for Arenaria. Herbalists generally buy and sell alchemy ingredients, but the stock on a particular visit can vary; check the merchant inventory in-game rather than relying on one vendor run to work in every save. How to handle monster parts and mutagens
Some recipes need components associated with monsters rather than plants. Loot the bodies of defeated monsters, then compare what you have with the ingredient list in the recipe. Rare mutagens are another possible monster-related ingredient source, but they are not interchangeable with ordinary herbs or guaranteed drops. The available ingredient reference identifies these source categories without establishing specific drop rates.

White Gull is a crafted alchemy ingredient and high-quality alcohol substitute, not a wild plant. Its recipe uses Arenaria; check the Alchemy panel for the full list of required ingredients, then gather or buy the items that are actually missing. White Gull reference
For the Arenaria portion, use the White Orchard fields between the sawmill and Woesong Bridge or check Tomira’s stock. For White Gull’s other ingredients, consult the recipe and current vendor inventories rather than assuming one fixed merchant visit will provide everything.

After you craft a potion, bomb, or oil, you generally do not need to gather its full ingredient list each time you use it. The game can replenish crafted mixtures during meditation when you have suitable strong alcohol in your inventory. That makes alcohol stock an important part of maintaining your supplies: craft the mixture, then keep an appropriate alcohol on hand for replenishment. Alchemy and replenishment
