Is The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival worth it on Switch 2? It may appeal to fans who want a solo, arcade-style brawler with familiar characters, but its combat and difficulty are divisive. One review praised its combat systems and progression; another found the encounters frustrating and repetitive. There is not enough evidence here to call either view a consensus—or to judge Switch 2 performance.
What you play
Nintendo describes The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival as an arcade beat ’em up based on the All Out War storyline. The campaign follows Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne, each with different fighting styles, stats, and signature abilities. Nintendo names Rick’s magnum, Michonne’s katana, and Daryl’s crossbow among their weapons, and advertises encounters with walkers and Saviors, plus boss fights featuring Negan and Simon. These are publisher-provided details, not independent assessments of how the campaign plays.

Why reviews disagree about the combat
The harsher view: frustration and repetition
Nathan Rudge gave the game 3/10 in a Switchaboo review published October 3, 2026. He praised the pixel-art character likenesses and environments, but felt they could not make up for frustrating encounters and a repetitive combat loop. He singled out a sharp difficulty spike in the second mission, an enemy capable of defeating the player in one hit, awkward-feeling enemy hit boxes, and ranged foes that could repeatedly knock the player down. He also found himself relying on the same finisher combo and considered ranged weapons less useful because ammunition was limited and aiming felt awkward. Switchaboo disclosed that it received a review code from Trailmark Games via Five Star Games. Read Rudge’s Switchaboo review.
#1 Best Overall
- Hard-Hitting Arcade Beat ’Em Up Combat - Use brutal melee abilities, crowd-clearing ranged attacks, or a mix of the two in fast-paced skirmishes. Enjoy responsive, crisp, and satisfying fighting gameplay while exploring the apocalypse.
- Face Iconic Bosses - Take on powerful, fan-favorite walkers like Winslow, the Well Walker, and more. The Saviors provide their own challenges as you throw down with Negan and Simon in intense, multi-phase boss battles that test your skill, strategy, and survival instincts.
- Replayable Arcade Challenge - Master each character’s move set and tackle multiple difficulty levels in an experience built for repeat runs and escalating challenges. Or jump in with an optional Easy Mode for casual play.
The more favorable view: tools and progression
EdEN awarded 7.5 in a PS4Blog review published September 18, 2026. The review describes light and heavy attacks, dodge rolls, running, vaulting, looting weapons, aiming ranged attacks, healing, and crouching to make less noise. It also notes character-specific upgrade nodes, purchased using knowledge points and materials, and says Negan can be unlocked. EdEN’s account presents a broader toolkit and progression loop than Rudge’s, but it does not establish that every player will find the fights satisfying. PS4Blog disclosed that Trailmark Games provided its Switch 2 copy. Read EdEN’s PS4Blog review.
The scores are two attributed opinions, not a broad measure of player or reviewer consensus. Together, they point to the key buying question: will you enjoy learning a set of attacks, dodges, and upgrades enough to tolerate encounters that one reviewer found punishing and repetitive?
Rank #2
- Based on the most watched drama in basic cable history!
- Take on the role of a Survivor from the show, collect supplies, and get back to Camp before it's too late!
- Semi-cooperative gameplay. Help your friends to keep them from turning into Walkers!
- If your Survivor dies, you come back as a Walker and now hunt the living!
- A tense survival boardgame for 1-4 players, ages 15+, with easy to learn rules, and a 45 minute playing time.
Is there multiplayer or replay value?
Nintendo lists single-system play for one player, and Switchaboo reports that the game has neither local nor online multiplayer. Nintendo advertises multiple difficulty levels, including an optional Easy Mode, and repeat runs. PS4Blog describes an endless Walker Pit mode included in the Arcade Apocalypse Pack DLC. That adds a solo survival-style option; it does not add multiplayer.

What is not established about Switch 2 performance
The available sources do not provide measured frame rates, resolution, load times, or a post-patch assessment. The reviews offer gameplay impressions, not a technical performance test, so there is no sound basis here to promise how smoothly the game runs or whether updates have changed its behavior.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want a solo beat ’em up set in The Walking Dead universe, value its familiar characters and pixel-art presentation, and are comfortable with action that may demand retries.
- Be cautious if you need co-op or online play, dislike repeated combat patterns, or want a verified account of Switch 2 frame rate and loading performance before buying.
- Choose an edition by its contents, not the old price: the DLC adds cosmetics, a higher difficulty, a soundtrack, and Walker Pit survival mode, while the Deluxe Edition was reported at launch as bundling it with the base game. Confirm what your regional store currently offers.
