AI-assisted game mashups are putting Minecraft mechanics in Skyrim and GTA V, skateboards on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 maps, and Mario moves in Elden Ring. But a viral clip is not necessarily a finished mod: some projects have downloadable builds, some publish source code that must be compiled, and others have no public release. The most useful way to judge them is to check what is available, what games and hardware they require, and how much of the mashup is playable.
The strangest AI-assisted game mashups
These projects differ in both ambition and availability. The status below reflects reporting and maintainer documentation checked on October 4, 2026; releases and compatibility can change, so check the creator’s own repository or release page before installing anything.

Release status in a roundup is a snapshot, not a guarantee that a build still works or remains available. A project’s video, source repository, and installable release are three different things.

There is no single technique behind these clips. “Inside” can mean anything from one game borrowing a mechanic or asset to two running games exchanging information. The Universal Modder project documentation describes several broad approaches, but the specific method is not documented for every example.

Run two games and bridge their state
In a passthrough setup, both games run on the same PC and a bridge sends information between them. This can make one game’s events or objects affect the other without combining both complete codebases into a single game. A technical overview describes this as one of the approaches used in mashups, but it does not establish that every named example uses it.
Port or recreate selected content
A creator can bring particular assets or mechanics into a host game, or reimplement some of a guest game’s behavior before fusing it with the host. That is different from making the entire guest game playable within the other one. The amount of content that makes it across varies by project.

Embed a game implementation
Another documented approach is embedding a decompiled game as a library. This involves an implementation of the guest game, rather than simply loading two finished games together. The project’s documentation also describes reimplementing guest-game behavior before combining it with the host.

AI agents can assist with reverse engineering, code, and asset integration, but the process still involves human choices and checks. A creator picks the crossover, supplies game files and tools, directs the work, and validates whether it runs and behaves as intended. The Universal Modder documentation includes planning and validation as part of its workflow; that does not establish that an agent independently created a complete game.

What to check before trying a mashup
- Find the creator’s release page. A viral clip may have no public build. The Minecraft-in-Elden-Ring example was reported as unreleased in the sources checked on October 4, 2026.
- Identify what is actually offered. A downloadable build, source code that must be compiled, and a video-only demonstration require very different levels of effort.
- Check the original game and version requirements. Projects may depend on particular game files, platforms, or versions; the Mario-in-Elden-Ring report specifies original game files and offline play.
- Check input requirements for the specific mode. The documented MW2 skating setup calls for a controller. That requirement does not apply to every mashup.
- Expect instability and limited scope. Current reporting describes bugs and limitations in available examples. A clip does not establish stable, complete gameplay.
- Look for the method and scope. Check whether a project documents its technical approach and whether it adds a few mechanics or makes a substantial portion of the guest game playable. If the creator has not explained the method, treat it as unknown.
Where to verify project details
For methods and the GTA V showcase, start with the Universal Modder repository. For availability, compatibility, and installation, prioritize each creator’s own release page or README over a reposted clip.
