The Trade Desk says Safari 27 on iOS 27 blocked requests to adsrvr.org, a domain the company describes as central to its ad-request and delivery operations. The allegation is specific to that domain and browser-and-OS combination; it is not evidence that Safari blocks all ads or all programmatic advertising.
What The Trade Desk reported
Ian Meyers, a senior director of engineering at The Trade Desk, filed WebKit Bugzilla issue 324771 on September 21, 2026. The issue says adsrvr.org was included in WebKit’s IS_REQUEST_UNCONDITIONALLY_BLOCKABLE domain list. Meyers said the blocked requests occurred on iOS 27 while he viewed a Yahoo article in regular, non-private browsing. The report lists iPhone and iPad as affected device categories. Read the WebKit issue.
Meyers characterized adsrvr.org as The Trade Desk’s “core ad request and delivery domain, not identity.” That is the company’s description; the cited public record does not provide an independent technical audit of the domain’s role.
AdExchanger reported that an example attached to the bug showed The Trade Desk bids being blocked on a Yahoo page while Google bids passed. That is the publication’s account of the example, not a comparative analysis published in the WebKit issue itself. AdExchanger described the consequence as The Trade Desk being unable to serve ads to Safari on Apple devices running iOS 27. Read AdExchanger’s report.

Is Safari blocking ads generally?
The report does not establish that Safari blocks all ads, every ad-tech company, or all programmatic advertising. Its supported scope is a reported block involving The Trade Desk’s adsrvr.org requests in Safari 27 on iOS 27. It should not be generalized to macOS, other browsers, all Safari traffic, or every Apple device.
Safari’s tracking protections are relevant context, but they do not by themselves explain why this particular domain appeared on the unconditional-blocking list. WebKit documents protections such as third-party cookie blocking and describes Intelligent Tracking Prevention as using resource-load statistics and patterns of cross-site tracking to classify domains. The public sources do not establish the complete decision process behind this specific listing. WebKit’s tracking-prevention documentation and Apple’s Safari privacy description explain the broader privacy context.

How this differs from Safari Private Browsing
The reported Yahoo-page incident occurred in non-private browsing, so it is not the same as Safari’s Private Browsing known-tracker content blocker. WebKit says that feature blocks some network loads while “intentionally allows most ads to continue loading.” That statement describes Private Browsing’s behavior; it neither confirms nor explains the reported treatment of adsrvr.org in regular browsing. WebKit’s Private Browsing 2.0 explanation describes the feature.

WebKit engineer John Wilander replied to Meyers on September 22, 2026: “Thanks for filing, Ian! I also got your email. We’re investigating.” On September 28, he said he would tell Meyers if and when changes were available to test.

On October 5, Wilander said a new iOS 27.2 beta was available for testing. Meyers replied that he saw changes in build 24B5099f and would test them and report any issues. The public issue still showed status NEW when checked on October 7, 2026. This documents a beta test opportunity and apparent changes, not a confirmed final fix, a public-release date, or a successful test outcome. The public issue is the record of those updates.
What this means for publishers and advertisers
The reviewed sources give no verified incident-specific estimate of lost publisher revenue, blocked impressions, or affected traffic. A delivery interruption on one browser-and-OS combination could look like weaker advertiser demand in aggregate results, but that is a diagnostic possibility, not a measured impact.

Apple also describes Privacy Preserving Ad Measurement as a way to provide attribution reports to websites and advertisers with limited data, without cookies or personal data in those reports, and with a random delay of 24 to 48 hours. That is Apple’s account of an attribution feature; it does not show that the feature replaces The Trade Desk’s ad-request route or resolves this incident. Apple’s Safari privacy page provides its description.
