To get two Sims closer in The Sims 4, first check whether their romantic attraction and WooHoo interests are compatible, then build familiarity and pay attention to which interactions each Sim responds to. Flirting is not a guaranteed route to romance: preferences, relationship settings, and—if you own Lovestruck—Romance Style and Romantic Satisfaction can all shape what happens.
Check attraction and WooHoo settings first
Before interpreting a rejected advance, review the Sim’s orientation settings in Create a Sim. Open the ellipsis menu beneath the gender settings and check the separate options for romantic attraction, romantic exploration, and WooHoo interest. Romantic attraction and WooHoo interest are independent: a Sim’s preference in one does not establish their preference in the other. The “exploring romantically” setting also affects whether romantic and flirty interactions are available to that Sim.
EA’s Sexual Orientation feature article explains these settings and notes that an advance outside a Sim’s configured attraction may be rejected. Check the settings before assuming a rejection means the relationship cannot develop; the other Sim may have different settings, or the interaction may simply not suit them.
Learn what the other Sim likes
If you have Lovestruck, Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs influence attraction. Rather than repeating Flirt and hoping for a different result, use social interactions to find out what the other Sim enjoys. Asking about Traits and Skills can reveal preferences, as can the Who’s Up Party Game. Then check the Sim Profile to see what you have learned.

Preferences can involve hair color, activities, characteristics, outfit color, fashion, and Romance Style. Treat discovered preferences as clues, not a guaranteed formula: learning one appealing trait does not ensure that every romantic interaction will succeed.
Choose romantic interactions with care
Lovestruck adds Romance Style preferences: Affection, Flirting, Gift Giving, Physical Intimacy, and WooHoo. A Sim may dislike a style their partner enjoys. EA says Romantic Satisfaction can decrease when a Sim engages in a style their partner is turned off by, so constant flirting may work against a couple rather than bring them closer.

Use what you have learned about each Sim to vary your approach. The relationship is not necessarily symmetrical: each Sim can have a different Romantic Satisfaction level with the other. Their combined satisfaction affects how quickly the romantic relationship fades, so one Sim’s positive experience does not automatically mean the other feels just as satisfied.

Lovestruck adds Cupid’s Corner, where a Sim can create a profile, browse matches, save favorites, and start conversations. The pack also adds custom date planning: choose a date type and venue, invite optional guests, and select activities and goals. EA lists options such as games, picnics, sharing food, cuddling, and stargazing.

These are pack features, not requirements for romance in the base game. They provide a more deliberate way to meet potential partners or shape a date, but they do not guarantee a particular relationship outcome.
Understand Romance Dynamics
Lovestruck adds four Romance Dynamics. They describe patterns in a relationship and can affect autonomous interactions in Live Mode; they are not a simple ranking of good to bad.

You can set a Dynamic in Create a Sim. The game may also prompt you to change it based on how the Sims behave, and you can ask to work on the Dynamic. Think of the label as the game’s portrayal of the relationship pattern, not a verdict that one couple is better than another.

Set jealousy boundaries to fit your Sims
Romantic Boundaries are free for all players, according to EA’s Lovestruck announcement. The settings let you configure jealousy responses separately for physical romance, non-physical romance, and WooHoo or Mess Around. EA’s guide describes four yes-or-no controls, including whether a Sim can change boundaries through conversation.

These settings let you choose how the game handles relationships; they do not prescribe one correct relationship model. EA says Sims can discuss changing boundaries, and the announcement describes support for multiple dating relationships without affecting other relationships. Set the boundaries that fit your play style before testing how different romantic interactions affect the household.

Romance is not always a prerequisite for WooHoo. EA says young adult Sims and older can ask a close friend to become a WooHoo Partner. If the friend accepts, WooHoo can happen without romance prerequisites; the request can also fail. The acceptance and age qualifications matter, so this is not a guarantee for every Sim or friendship.

EA’s Lovestruck announcement is dated June 27, 2024, and gives the pack’s launch date as July 25, 2024. EA’s guide was marked updated five months before it was accessed on October 7, 2026. Gameplay details may change with patches; EA’s cited guide does not establish a patch-specific game version.
