The Precinct is a single-player action game from publisher Kwalee Ltd, released for PS5 on May 13, 2025. You play rookie police officer Nick Cordell Jr. in Averno City, a fictional urban setting. The premise borrows from open-world crime sandboxes, but the role is different from Grand Theft Auto: you are a cop responding to crime, not a criminal protagonist.
#1 Best Overall
- Explore a vibrant, living city by foot, squad car and helicopter
- Respond to sandbox crimes ranging from parking violations to gang shootouts
- Engage in intense vehicle chases through destructible environments
- Go solo or call-in backup with an in-depth support system
- Investigate the gangs who rule the city and the dark conspiracies keeping them in control
Patrols, pursuits and casework
The central loop combines beat patrols with responding to crimes and callouts. You can pursue suspects on foot or in vehicles, call for support, and investigate gangs and a conspiracy tied to your father’s murder. The official PlayStation description calls it “A love letter to classic cop movies” that “combines police sim with action sandbox spectacle.”
PlayStation also lists helicopter pursuits, squad-car support, roadblocks and spike strips. A day/night cycle and dynamic weather add changing conditions to the city. These details suggest a mix of routine patrol and action set pieces rather than a purely procedural police simulator.

Is The Precinct worth buying on sale?
The sale is most relevant if you want a PS5 open-world game built around patrolling, police callouts and vehicle or foot chases, and you are comfortable with its action-sandbox approach. Its police-officer perspective is the defining difference from the criminal-centered Grand Theft Auto comparison. If you are looking for a detailed, strictly realistic simulation, the official description’s emphasis on action spectacle is worth weighing before purchase.
