The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is getting a physical PS5 release as part of its 2026 Legacy Edition return. The game first launched in 2011; Aspyr released the Legacy Edition digitally on PS5 on August 11, 2026. October 6 reporting says Limited Run Games plans PS5 discs, with Standard and Deluxe editions available to preorder through December 13, 2026.
Which Lord of the Rings game is getting a physical PS5 release?
It is The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, not a new game based directly on the films. The original action RPG was released in 2011. Its 2026 Legacy Edition follows a separate digital PS5 release by Aspyr on August 11, 2026. The U.S. PlayStation Store lists the digital game at $19.99. What kind of game is War in the North?
The PlayStation Store classifies Legacy Edition as an action role-playing game. Its story follows a new Fellowship defending the North against Agandaûr, a Black Númenórean serving Sauron, while Frodo and Samwise travel toward Mount Doom. The three playable heroes are Eradan, a Dúnedain Ranger; Andriel, an Elven Loremaster; and Farin, a Dwarven Champion.
