The 128GB Wi-Fi iPad mini (A17 Pro) was reported at $499 on Amazon during Prime Big Deal Days, a $100 reduction from the deal report’s $599 reference price. The sale was reported to run October 6–7, 2026, so check Amazon’s live listing before buying: the price and offer may have changed. There is no evidence that this is the last time the iPad mini will ever cost $499.
What the $499 offer covers
Tom’s Guide reported the 128GB Wi-Fi iPad mini 7 at $499 for Amazon Prime Big Deal Days, compared with a $599 reference price. That makes the reported saving $100. Tom’s Guide’s October 5, 2026 deal report said the offer would run October 6–7. Treat both the price and end date as time-sensitive; they describe a retailer deal, not a current Apple Store price.
Apple’s October 23, 2024 announcement set the U.S. launch price for the A17 Pro iPad mini at $499 for Wi-Fi and $649 for Wi-Fi + Cellular. Those are historical launch prices, not confirmation of Apple’s current pricing. Apple’s announcement also said the model doubled the storage of its predecessor.

Is this really the last chance to buy one for $499?
That is possible, but it is not established. The available reporting does not show that Apple has announced a replacement, set a successor’s release date, or said the current model will not return to this price. A sale ending does not prove the price will never recur.

Reports from Macworld and TechRadar discuss a possible next iPad mini and rumored updates, including an OLED display. These are forecasts, not confirmed specifications or launch commitments from Apple. They cannot establish when a new model might arrive, what it might cost, or whether today’s model will be discounted again.
Should you buy now or wait?
Base the decision on the live price and how soon you need a small tablet, rather than treating the “last time ever” wording as a deadline.

- Touch ID
- FaceTime HD and iSight cameras
- Apple Pencil (1st generation) support
- Lightning connector
- Consider buying now if the Amazon listing still shows $499 for the 128GB Wi-Fi model and it meets your needs. The reported deal is $100 below its cited $599 reference price.
- Consider waiting if you can comfortably do without a tablet and would rather see what Apple announces next. The timing, price, and features of a successor are not confirmed.
- Choose connectivity deliberately. The reported $499 deal is for Wi-Fi. Apple’s 2024 launch pricing for the Wi-Fi + Cellular configuration was $649; the deal report does not establish a comparable cellular-model offer.
If you plan to write or draw, Apple lists Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) as compatible with iPad mini. Check Apple’s iPad mini shop page for current compatibility and purchasing details.
