A mid-sprint review is an optional checkpoint during an active Sprint: the team inspects working evidence, gathers focused feedback, surfaces risks to the Sprint Goal, and adapts the remaining work while there is still time to respond. Scrum does not define a separate event called a “mid-sprint review”; it is a local practice that can support Scrum’s inspect-and-adapt approach.
What a mid-sprint review is for
Unlike an end-of-Sprint review, this checkpoint takes place while the Sprint is underway. The team uses it to answer a practical question: based on what we can see now, should we change how we pursue the Sprint Goal?
Inspect a usable increment, thin slice, assumption, or dependency—not a slide deck of activity. Label unfinished work clearly so participants can distinguish demonstrated behavior from plans or incomplete features. Invite stakeholders who can provide relevant feedback or help make a product decision, and keep the discussion collaborative rather than turning it into a presentation for a passive audience. Scrum.org describes the formal Sprint Review as a “working, collaborative meeting” for inspection and adaptation: Scrum.org’s guidance on conducting a Sprint Review.
The timing can expose a misunderstanding or risk before the Sprint ends, giving the team an opportunity to respond. That is a reasoned benefit of earlier feedback, not a measured guarantee that a mid-sprint meeting improves delivery.

Is it part of Scrum?
No. The Scrum Guide defines formal events such as the Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective; it does not define a separate mid-sprint review event. Treat the checkpoint as a team practice, not a required ceremony. The formal Sprint Review happens at the end of the Sprint and has the purpose “to inspect the outcome of the Sprint and determine future adaptations,” as Scrum.org explains.
A midpoint discussion should complement those events rather than replace them. The Daily Scrum is a frequent, developer-focused inspection of progress toward the Sprint Goal and an opportunity to adjust the Sprint Backlog; it is not a stakeholder demo. The Sprint Retrospective focuses on how the team works, including people, interactions, process, tools, and the Definition of Done. The Scrum Guide 2017 describes it as an opportunity for the Scrum Team to inspect itself and plan improvements for the next Sprint: Scrum.org’s retrospective overview and the Scrum Guide 2017.

What to discuss halfway through a Sprint
Anchor the conversation in the Sprint Goal and evidence. A useful checkpoint examines what has been learned and what decisions are still possible—not whether each person looks busy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Progress and evidence: What working behavior or usable increment can participants inspect? What remains unfinished or unverified?
- Value and assumptions: Does the evidence support the product assumption or expected user value? What feedback changes the team’s understanding?
- Risks and dependencies: Is anything threatening the Sprint Goal, such as a blocked dependency, technical uncertainty, or changed stakeholder expectation?
- Adaptation: Should the team split, reorder, validate, or stop any remaining work? What trade-off does each change create?
- Follow-through: What decision was made, who owns the next action, when will it be checked, and where will unresolved questions be tracked?
Keep interpersonal or process-improvement topics for the Retrospective unless they are immediately blocking progress toward the Sprint Goal. That keeps product inspection distinct from inspecting how the team works.

A practical 30–45 minute agenda
- 5 minutes — Set the frame. Restate the Sprint Goal, its success conditions, and the specific question the group needs to answer.
- 10–15 minutes — Inspect evidence. Show a working increment or thin slice. Discuss only what can be demonstrated; label unfinished work plainly.
- 10 minutes — Gather focused feedback. Ask about value, usability, assumptions, dependencies, and emerging changes. Give stakeholders room to discuss rather than simply watch.
- 5–10 minutes — Decide adaptations. Agree whether to stop, split, reorder, or validate remaining work, and record any trade-off against the Sprint Goal.
- 5 minutes — Close the loop. Capture owners, dates, unresolved risks, and the next validation step or follow-up channel.
How to facilitate the checkpoint
Use a visible board so discussion leads to decisions rather than a status ritual. Scrum.org’s retrospective facilitation guidance suggests a shared board, participant input, discussion, and prioritization of actions. For a mid-sprint review, adapt that approach to four sections: Evidence, Questions or risks, Feedback, and Decisions. Participants can add notes, discuss the items that matter, then agree on the decision and next validation step. See Scrum.org’s Sprint Retrospective facilitation guidance.
End with a short, ordered action list. Assign owners and a check-back date, and make backlog changes visible. One or two clear actions are more useful than a long list no one revisits.

When a mid-sprint review is worthwhile
Use one when a discussion can produce learning or a decision early enough to affect the Sprint. It is especially useful when:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Requirements or stakeholder expectations are uncertain.
- A dependency could derail the Sprint Goal.
- The team is testing a risky assumption and can show evidence before the Sprint ends.
- A thin slice of working functionality can elicit meaningful feedback.
Skip or shorten it when continuous collaboration already provides the same feedback, the Sprint is too short to justify another meeting, or no one can name a decision or learning question the meeting should resolve.

Common failure modes and how to avoid them
- It becomes a status presentation. Set a concrete learning question, inspect working evidence, and make the discussion collaborative.
- Feedback creates uncontrolled scope churn. Tie proposed changes to the Sprint Goal and record what will be reordered, split, or left out.
- It duplicates the Retrospective. Keep the checkpoint about product progress, value, and Sprint Goal risk; reserve broader team-process improvement for the Retrospective.
- The action list grows too large. Select one or two owned actions and give each a check-back date.
- Decisions disappear after the meeting. Put them where the team can see them and revisit them in the next Daily Scrum or review.
Do mid-sprint reviews improve delivery?
A well-run checkpoint can help a team notice a misunderstanding, dependency, or risky assumption earlier and adapt before the Sprint ends. Whether that improves delivery depends on the quality of the evidence, the usefulness of the feedback, and the team’s ability to act without losing focus on the Sprint Goal.
There is no established statistic here that isolates the causal effect of a meeting specifically called a “mid-sprint review.” Avoid treating it as a guaranteed velocity or delivery improvement. Judge it by whether it produces useful learning, a clear decision, and follow-through that the team would not otherwise have had in time.
